Correct. I have no expectation that I could get the type of frame I'm looking for for a couple or few hundred bucks. (If so, all the better, but I'm not counting on it!)

Without reading through pages of bike catalogs, could you point out where it says the Tout Terrain will fit a low q-factor crank in the range the OP is looking for? Great frame, BTW, if not a little pricey.

+1. I have an Ogre, and my girlfriend commutes on a Troll. Sounds like it ticks most of the boxes except your skinny tire desire.

TT comes equipped with Middleburn cranks, which are very low Q-factor.

so much for the esoteric argument ... you can buy a tout terrain at an ACE HARDWARE store.

I $hit you not:

sounds like as good combination business , I expect bike sales in Idaho Is real slow

when there is a meter or 2 of snow on the ground, but people still need to fix things all winter..
so the hardware store is a good combine.

actually, it's seems that that particular ace store is quite active in the cycling community.

i knew about Joe's before.

so, there are several options in the US. just call them up and have them ship it out

I keep my expenses and commitments low in the UK. I'm not sure it's a long-term deal. I'd rather be back on the continent

Let's see how that goes!

I just drove by Joe Bike in Portland this weekend. I don't think I knew they were there before that.

Sure enough, they have a Tout Terrain bike: Tout Terrain Metropolitan | Joe Bike

They say they're "simultaneously humbled and ensmuggened to be one of North America’s only Tout Terrain dealers." Nice.

Save for that one requirement, I agree, it looks like a great frame, and I've read lots of good things about it.

They are certainly nice cranks - I've seen them before and they look great. I'd prefer just a frame, though, as I already have other components I could use - and yes, those cranks would, I suppose, suggest the Tout Terrain frame can accept narrower cranks.
