First commute in 2 years

After picking up new tubes on the weekend and an underground bike parking permit at my office building yesterday, I had my first ride into work in about two years today -- it's also about the third time I've been on a bike since spending more than a year on crutches. A leisurely 9.2km/5.7mi ride from home through bad traffic, lots of construction and a city-wide air pollution index approaching 150. Still, it's just fantastic to be back in the saddle

That's great news! Do you wear a mask or some such?

No mask today... I need to get a new one anyway.

Ride home even better than on the way in. But wow, am I out of shape. Thanks, skijor, for the kind words! The Jamis is as fantastic to ride as I remembered.

Might I ask what kept you on crutches that long? Congrats by the way, I know how great of a feeling it can be.

I spent about three months on crutches last year, which kept me out of the saddle for almost a year (could have been sooner but no health care)

Thanks! I had a series of bad (and newly developed) allergic reactions to a neoprene liner in my prosthetic leg. It took a long time to figure out what was actually going on and determine a solution. I never knew neoprene could be allergenic, but apparently this is a not-unknown problem among scuba divers
