Yeh, we got covered bike parking at work...

Well, actually, we got a little spot at the entrance to a "smoking tent."

Does anyone else find this a little ironic?

Ha, very ironic.

Maybe they are hoping the smokers seeing the bikers will be a good influence.

At my local grocery store they put the bike rack right next to the employees smokers bench.

Rino 04-02-14 06:39 AM

:) Yes, because going by the stink in there, I don't think too many of the cyclists will become smokers!

I guess it's a moot point though, since once more than two additional people bike to work, I won't have room at that rack anyway. It's gone up to 15 Celsius (59 Fahrenheit) here the last couple of days, but only 2 (35.6) in the morning, and that has been enough to keep the fair weather only cyclists away, which is quite laughable, since many parts of Canada are experiencing high temperatures similar to our clear sky lows!

Two things:

1. Those faux windowpanes really class up the place, eh? :).
2. You should be thankful it's near a smoking area since that's cheap security. When you see people hanging out smoking you should make friendly smalltalk, especially if you see them regularly.

my work has the bike racks next to the smokers outpost. I dont park there.

1. smokers have messed with coworkers bike before. 2. I dont really want people hanging around and messing with my bike.

plus i dont want my bike to get cancer ;)

I'd say that's a mixed blessing.

Hey, how's it goin', eh:p

Although pleasant enough, the two smokers that were there when I arrived at work thrive in a different atmosphere than I do, making conversation difficult for me. I'm reminded of this methane breathing alien from Star Trek The Next Generation.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=372338

Banished to the outskirts of what is acceptable? WTH?

BobbyG 04-02-14 06:54 PM

Cheap security FTW! Recently I biked to the grocery store, got pre-occupied and forget to lock my bike for the first time in my adult life. The rzck is next to where the employees smoke. There was one puffin' away when I arrived and I said "hi" to her. When I left, I found out I had forgot to lock, looked around and there she was. She said, "see ya", crushed her cig and went back in. OTOH if some one is broke and hard up for smokes, they may just pilfer your peripherals.

Does it have a coffee shop under there as well?

At my work place there is an off-street, depressed out-of-street-view ramp with a sturdy rail to lock bikes, and a lot of employee traffic, mostly professional people. It's not a designated bike area though. I can bring my bike indoors, but I considered the ramp a pretty secure area, particularly because smokers congregated there until they were banished. I called it "Tobacco Road."
