In theory there's two versions, disc and non-disc. Everywhere place I look only has the disc version. I bought the disc version and mounted it on a non-disc bike with no issues. I kinda prefer the disc version, someday I may upgrade my bike to a disc brake frame and I'll be able to use the rack I own.

I liked the topeak attachment system, and the transforming trunk/pannier bag when I looked at them at REI. The medium size expanding trunk bag didn't fit my ipad though. Can't deal with that. I did like the idea though, I might end up with one later.
If you need to carry your ipad every day, makes sense.

I think I'm going to get the topeak super tourist rack that mr. Igh suggested, and use timbuk2 tandem panniers for now. I can easily imagine myself with a basket+shopping panniers later, and like the topeak attachment system. So it'll fulfill my immediate needs and has some room to grow if I end up collecting different bags for different purposes.

But I can't see myself carrying around the expanding trunk bag every day, for purely shallow fashion reasons. Dedicated panniers could still be a bit of a pain, and i like the separate compartments and reasonable size of he timbuk2 tandem panniers/messenger bags. So they win.
Lol, you must have very different fashion sense than I do. :-) I cannot imagine biking around with a pannier unless I needed to. I also found that a packed pannier creates drag that I can feel, while a trunk back doesn't create any noticeable drag.

Of course - you should go with the choice that fits your own fashion sense. :-) Good luck!

From fashion sense, I love the look of the Brooks Roll Up panniers, other than the nosebleed cost. But really gorgeous looking, folded and unfolded.

Oh I'm concerned about carrying the panniers/trunk bag, not how they look on the bike.

Those brooks are pretty.

I have the Topeak MTX TrunkBag EX, it fits my Galaxy 10.1 nice and tight so it doesn't move around:

No built in panniers must make more room in the bag? REI and my LBS never carry the TrunkBag EX, they push the pannier version.

I used to have the non-pannier version, and it certainly held more in the main compartment, but the pannier version is nice to have with cold mornings and warm evenings. Used to strap a stuff sack on top, but now can just drop down one side. I prefer the pannier version, but also really liked the other type. Best thing is that the panniers are not too wide, so they don't create too much drag. Here's a shot with the panniers deployed.

linus makes something similar for a lower cost. It's called the market bag:

Thanks for the link, those look very nice.

They look cool. How handy are they when taken off the bike? What I like about my Ortlieb is that both bags can be taken off individually and that they have shoulder belts to carry around.

I don't use the Linus or Brooks panniers, but I think people who do leave them on the bike (they can be locked to the bike). I can see how that would work nicely if you put bags down into them that include their own shoulder straps or carrying handles. I use Ortlieb frontrolller classics on back. They work well for me, but don't exactly look professional if I need to go straight from the bike into a meeting.
