It's cheaper to buy a road bike on CL than to convert your MTB to roadie. And the roadbike will likely still be faster as it's geometry encourages efficient riding form.

All it would take is changing tire. That's just to make it steadier on the road. Thats $50 maybe. I haven't seen 1 road bike on my CL for that cheap and worth a dang.

The #1 thing to change is don't park your bike in a restroom--too many cooties. I walk out of most men's rooms and want to throw my shoes away.

After that, just ride it like it is and see how it works. Lots of people do lots of things on bikes that aren't web/forum approved. Over time you will probably begin to see the logic in some/most/all of the advice you have gotten already.

I might need a camera for my commute because it helps me catch the idiots that had made a hit and run on me.

Your bike is much better than the mtn bike I use to ride 7000 miles a year, but mine has a rear rack to keep the weight off my back.
... so, there is no right answer, it's personal preference.
I think the rider is more important that the bike, but then I do not have to worry about ice on the road.

I know the Kenda is cheap, but I like this better

Amazon.com: CST Ciudad RS Kevlar Tire, 26 x 1.5-Inch: Sports & Outdoors

' has Kevlar and the reflective sidewall is a plus.

My commute is going to be 4.3 mi in 2 years ( new school ). I want to get there in 20 minutes. What do I need to do to accomplish that goal?

I'd like it to my own size. 26 x 2.10"
