Boston area, new biker, need advice on what to buy!
Hi all! I have been biking on a very old, very janky mountain bike for a year. I'm ready for an upgrade! I think i am looking for a hybrid style bike-one that i can commute with but also go on weekend rides with. I came across this Craig's List ad and was hoping to hear your thoughts! Do you like Globe bikes? Is this a good price for you? I can't seem to find this particular rendition on Globe's website, can anyone help me identify it?

Welcome to Boston area bicycling; I'm a decades-long year-round commuter here, but your title belies your request for advice, i.e. it's not Boston specific, and I'm not familar with Globe Bikes.
If interested though, I would recommend the thread, "Metro Boston: Good ride today?" on the Northeast Regional Discussion Forum. It seems to be the de facto Boston Bicycling subforum.

Dropping by the Specialized brand carrying Bike shop and test riding them firsthand would be most informative.
but $300 for a scarcely used bike owned by someone that is so spotless a housekeeper a white couch is sensible to them , is something.
they did title it as to rider size , so thats a help .

The Boston area has a number of really good shops and co-ops. Since you're looking at a used bike, a co-op would be the right place to start. The model of co-ops varies, but many have refurbished used bikes for sale, or they can advise, or you might recruit on of their staffers to go with you and check out any bike you're considering buying, so you don't end up with a dog that needs expensive work and ends up costing you more to than you could have spent for something better.

My own highly recommended shop is Back Bay Bikes. I bought my Cannondale Mtn Bike used from them several years ago, and it has been reliable ever since, much due to their excellent service.
And I bought my Specialized S-Works from them new.
And I bought my Specialized S-Works from them new.

you might check out the Trek FX series. I got them for my kids when they were ready for adult size bikes, and also for wifey. you can call it a hybrid but some might call it a straight bar road bike. there seem to be plenty of them on craigslist. I bought 3 of them on CL! be careful with sizing though, especially if you are petite. the pics belong to us, but found some on CL
