My ideal commuter bike has not been spoken about by me as far as I know. It wouldn't be practical as a production model.

PM if you are interested in talking bout it!

Ryan,

Great looking bike, my new commuter is going to look slightly more conventional, but be very similar in terms of technology, running a belt with Di2 Alfine and hydraulic brakes.

Quick question about the rear sprocket you're using - Gates seem to reckon that you need to run a 28t at the rear and a very far inboard chainline, which for the gear ratios I want would mean a 55t at the front, and only 7.5mm chainstay width!

What did you do for yours and what ratios are you running?

Cheers, Rich

Perfect poor man's city bike. Priority Bicycles belt-driven bike with 3 speed IGH @$400:

The market for that could expand. Of course if you have cash lying around, I have to say the 11 speed Alfine Di2 Gates belt-driven commuter is very sweet indeed.

IMO, most non-bicyclists wouldn't recognize anything unique about this bike, or any other bike unless it has a garish or gaudy paint scheme; or has the price tag hanging from the handlebars. I doubt that it would be a catalyst for conversation with anyone but a cycling enthusiast unless the price was mentioned.

It wouldn't be about the price. The looks of that bike is a show stopper. People will be asking where you got it.

Its not my cup of tea but to someone who can afford it, I'm sure it would suit them well.

Hi Rich,

It's a 50 tooth centertrack up front and a 28 tooth Di2 specific in rear. I believe there was only one rear option to fit Di2 specifically from Gates, but there may be more now. The belt is 115 tooth.

I'm 6'1" with normal build and have no issue with standover or handlebars. Ever seen drop bars on bikes, they sit even lower! Like some people before said, haters are going to hate. I'm certainly not going to apologize that I work hard and have had success which therefore enables me to come up with side projects such as this bike. This is not my only bike, I actually have quite a few, and some of which I don't even ride. If you read my post, I have never once pushed that this particular bike is the be all end all and is for everybody. It is AGAIN, just a TOY project that I thought some might like to see. And when I ride it on occasion, a lot of real bike enthusiasts come up and ask questions about it and engage in meaningful conversations. I've let numerous such people even take it for a spin. Again, haters gonna hate.

Yes, I've recently seen that one too. Might order it for the Ms to try to get her into biking a little.

One more question - what cranks are you using? Ideally I'd like to use the fairly cheap Alfine crankset as I'll have the correct offset, but it comes in 110 BCD while the Gates Di2 rings are only in 130 BCD.

Cheers, Rich

@ryan0402

First off I'm sorry some members were so rude to you! What you have there is a really neat bike! Might not be everyone's cup of tea or anything I'm used to. However, it's certainly cool none the less. How does the electronic shifting compare to manual shifting? Does it feel smoother? Is there shift delay?

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

It is interesting, if we all liked the exact same things then the world would be a boring place.

To ask, is it more of a 'fun-day' bike or is it actually seeing a lot of use?

And yes, I defintly see the artistic elements in it and it is good to know it is actually seeing some miles instead of just hanging on a wall somewhere.

That bike looks awesome... But personally i'd be asking if they could customize the bars for me. Rather than bend the two tubes forward and then out to the sides, i'd want them bent out to the sides first, *then* forward, and then curled up at the end. Bullhorn those bars, and my wife will need to hide my wallet...
