Heel strike with a 415 mm chainstay? D I need a trunk bag now?
Guys guys guys(and gals, and gender neutral folk, whatever you prefer!), it's the best of day s! It's New Bike Day!
Going from a comfort cruiser style bike to a road bike. Primarily for commuting, but also some fun rides. Mold comfort bike had a chainstay of 485. New bike has a chainstay of 415.
Am I going to have heel strike issues? I've got size 15 feet. The way my schedule is, I'm not really going to have time to test, and then go shopping. I'd be dealing with the 'wrong' bag for about a week. But I can manage to just go shopping if I need to. It really like to avoid using a backpack or messenger bag in 95+ degree heat with 60%+ humidity, is all.
I've been using a timbuk2 dual pannier bag, Timbuk2 Tandem Panniers - Medium - Free Shipping at REI.com
I'd be using a Topeak trunk bag if I do need a new bag. All I need to carry is a change of clothes, ipad, phone, and a book. I don't actually need all the space I've got with the timbuk2 bag, I just liked it.
although if I can get a pannier ackback or messenger combo bag that fits, I'll probably use that....out of sheer vanity when carrying around a bag while not on the bike, no real substance behind the reason.

BTW I use the Topeak trunk bags for my commute. I have two: one is a little smaller, and one is a little bigger. The smaller one is OK if I'm just bringing lunch; the bigger one can also carry other "essentials" like a windbreaker, arm/leg warmers, extra gloves, etc. That's without folding out the built-in panniers. The downside, for me, about using these trunk bags is that they preclude use of my seat bag (on two of my bikes), so that also has to be carried in the trunk, reducing the amount of useful volume for other things. If I could use the seat bag and the trunk bag simultaneously, most of the time I could get away with the smaller one.
