Commuters (and all cyclists) deal with flats. Fact of life. Saw this today thought I'd share.

PATCHNRIDE

It seems like this would have a limited value to me. I've had scores of flats over the years and in my experience a very small percentage of them have been from the types of puncture that this magic tool is designed to fix. I seldom find a nail or the offending sharp object sticking straight out of the tire (sure it has happened) But usually whatever causes it is not so obvious and I usually have to go searching for the tiny hole.

OK so it's not a thing for me, but I'm passing it along as a public service because I'm here to serve.

Ridiculous.

I won't be the first to buy one, but I will be very interested in others reviewing it. If works as advertised it'll be pretty cool.

Is this for tubeless only?

The last two flats I've had would be good test subjects for the device. The most recent was a small piece of wire, the second a machine screw.

I can't see how this could properly repair the tube. Also,not sure if I trust a guy who can't even wear his mess bag right.

At least they spelled "voila" correctly. That always bugs me.

True, but nonetheless , I hope someone else buys it ;) and provides a review. The major problem I can see, is that it is often difficult to know where the puncture is until inspecting the tube.

i'm not so negative about stuff like this, probably because i desperately need it! i'd say about half my flats that aren't user error could qualify for a patch'n'ride, so i may try it, especially for my tubulars, as i detest throwing away an expensive tire with tread still covering the casing. :)

I can see how this might possibly work, it's basically just an injector that delivers a small amount of sealant to the site of a puncture. If someone has a flavor injector (the kind you might use before deep frying a turkey) and some extra Stan's laying around you could probably test the concept for yourself (and if you do, please report back to BF about the experiment).

But I'm with the other respondents in this thread, being able to inject sealant at the site of a puncture isn't going to help at all unless the offending object actually stays in the tire for you to find, so it's not total replacement for carrying standard patches.

I'm sure it would work just fine, provided the tube and tire magically retain their alignment after losing air, and the tube remains firmly pressed up against the tire. :rolleyes:

I just like how hard they make patching a tire seem. It patches holes up to 3mm! It takes less than 60 seconds, rather than the traditional method, which takes 20 minutes! Has anyone ever taken 20 minutes to patch a tube? My record is less than 4 minutes patching a tube, less for a new tube.

The last flat I had I didn't detect the source of the external puncture from the outside of the tire, just from the inside so I would have had to take the tire off in this instance to figure out where to put this device. Notice the CF bike and wheels: can you imagine a weight weenie carrying another device like this on their bike?

It's extremely rare that I can find the source of my puncture from the outside. on my road bike, 80% of the time it's a snake bite with no external puncture. When it is a road hazard puncture, it's almost always a shard of glass and a very slow leak that's undetectable from the outside. Only maybe 3 or 4 times out of dozens of flats was I able to find the puncture source from the outside.

I wouldn't carry something that big in hopes that once every 30 flats I'd be able to use it. Just throw a new tube in and pump up.

I could see how it would work in those rare cases where you can actually see the damage from the outside, like in the photo above. Those account for fewer than 10% of the flats I get, so I'll carry spare tubes, thank you.

Really, that video seriously pisses me off.
To me, that video says to you:


1. Framing nails & machine screws are the #1 cause of flat tires
2. You are an idiot incapable of patching a tire
3. If you try, you will destroy your bike, so
4. You have to buy tires & tubes
3. tires & tubes are extremely expensive

WITH PATCHNRIDE:


1. Just remove the cap & click it, and ride off laughing w/ joy!
B. You will never have to buy tires or tubes again!
III. You are an eco-warrior saving the planet!


aaah, I love a good rant.

I do occasionally get flats from goatheads that are quite obvious. In fact usually the better practice is to leave the goathead(s) in there; if you pull them out then HISSSSSS. But if you leave them in maybe you can get home and repair in comfort.

And it seems like that spike would unnecessarily enlargen (embiggen?) the hole in your tire.

I think this gadget is a solution in search of a problem.

To find the hole, attach pump, inflate, listen for leaking. Soapy water may help as well.

I'm sure i was not the only one to notice that the guy was wearing his bag with the padded part hanging and the un padded part on shoulder. Also, even if you can find the hole in the tire, how do you know the hole in the tube is in the same spot, usually deflated tubes shift a bit.

Saying he bought new tires for every flat tire also takes away lots of credibility. I have 4 holes on back and 3 holes on front og my cruiser tires, i put tape on the inside to keep debris from getting in the hole (unlikely but better safe than sorry). I wuld rotate tire away from puncture so the patch and hole don't line up as well.

Interesting device, poor advertising.

A lady I work with gets upset with people leaving the radio on in the break room because of the electricity it is wasting. She drives a rather large Lexus to work from a very easily bikeable distance.
