Nashbar Closing?

I heard a rumor (from a club member) that Bike Nashbar is closing. Any truth to this rumor? I know they had trouble years ago but closing??? (They are now owned by Preformance) Please tell me it isn't true.

This rumor probably has about as much useful information in it as most rumors.

Naw ...they just love to tempt you with closeout deals and one-day specials. Nashbar has always been that way.

i saw a sign in the window of the the local Performance Bike yesterday that said, "Everything on Sale". i was tempted to go in and ask them the difference between everything being on sale, and just plain excellent prices. i was afraid they'd come back with the fact that the "everything on sale" indicated that the "excellent pricing" was just temporary. so i just continued on my way...

That's funny considering how awful I find Performance Bike, and how excellent I find Nashbar.

I find them both quite mediocre; Nashbar seems like a closeout place to me, whenever I go there looking for something they seem like they have random leftovers, like there are 6 sizes and they have two (usually "elfinly small" and "blue whale" for clothing). They usually have everything except specifically what I'm looking for.

Performance is significantly better in that regard, and the local Performance store is quite well stocked for an LBS in this area.

i understand about nashbar in that respect. they don't always have a huge selection, and sometimes not at all what you're looking for - especially when it comes to a specific brand. but they are good for a bunch of stuff, still.

the local perf. bike store here sucks hard.

I bought from Nashbar before it was bought out by Performance. I still order from Nashbar from time to time and almost never from Performance. I hate the whole idea of joining a buyer's club to save money; why the heck can't Performance just offer a low price and be done with it? Nashbar can be a bit hit or miss as to what they have but their prices are reasonable and their sales good. I guess I just like their pricing policies better and find Performance as a little too faux upscale for my taste.

Congratulations! You are the very first person to 'break this story'. Seriously, go type "bike nashbar closing" into your favorite online search engine and see what turns up.

I use Nashbar solely for driving down prices at Performance. Never bought anything there, but Performance price match means I can get online prices at a real store.

This is what I found too when I was looking for clothes or gloves. For other things I find that REI or Amazon usually beat out their prices. Oh and they also carry clothing in sizes that you know fit me. In short if Nashbar were to close it would be no great loss.

A lot less this year than years past. Most of things I needed for the builds I'm working on they didn't have. About the only thing I really miss is them carrying Vittoria Randoneur Pros in 26 x 1.50, I could really use them to have those on sale again, I'd like to stockpile a handful...

Have been buying stuff from Nashbar since it was Bike Warehouse in the '70's.
Currently have N-bar pedals on three bikes - all were clearance-priced and were worth the price. Unfortunately, the pair I like best is truly no longer available.
Highly variable selection most of the time. For instance, lots of shoes but try finding a pair in your size.
I buy more items from Performance because there is a store nearby. They have pretty extensive selection of some of the things that I need - I'm a fan of the Forte Metro K tire which is often on sale. The store matches online PB deals.

I would like to comment but it took more than 10 years to get off their mailing list, I don't want to go through that again.

I find some of their house brand stuff to be pretty decent quality for the price. They have the occasional frame sale where you can get them for ridiculously low prices. My winter bike frame was $25 from Nashbar.

Ordered a cheapish Nashbar-branded crankset a few years ago to replace the [defective] OEM drive side rear crank on our tandem and when it arrived it was the same Dotek crank that it was replacing, except not defective and with an "N" on the crankarm.

Did a google search, seems like they may be on the decline based on what ive found. As for closing, no solid info on that.
