I have BB7's on my SS MTB, but in my personal experience winter riding can be a murder on any disc brakes unless you rinse all the salt out after each ride...I had to completely disassemble my BB7's to get them working again because everything got seized up last winter...The only reason I use disc brakes is because it saves my rims from wearing out, It's a trade off and I am willing to put up with it just to save my rims...My weapon of choice is FG for it's simplicity and minimal maintenance, even if the brakes stop working I can still stop.

Wow, I didn't know that at all. That sounds plausible. She does have a habit of taking the wheel off frequently to fit it on trains or whatever (whereas I just leave mine on and apologise.) We'll try to pay attention and see how that goes.

(Just noticed this notification now...I know it was a while ago.)

I vote carbon fork. Your endurance and comfort is going to be more important than the difference in braking capabilities. And you'll be able to stop just find on rim brakes no matter the conditions. In that split second when you really need to stop, you can bet that you'll make sure you mash those brake handles hard enough to stop. In comparison your reaction speed and observational skills will be more important than the difference in brake capabilties.

I have both and at this point, I'd say forget the disc brakes and just go with the fork. My bike is just a few weeks old now and the disc brakes squeal most times I use them. It rarely ever rains where I am, so it's not because they're wet. I just ordered a can of this stuff and I hope it does the trick. If my bike had come with conventional brakes, I'd know what to do but disc brakes are still foreign to me.

Looks good - when searching for Clix QRs, the links all seemed pretty old.

They fell out of favor,mostly because shops didn't explain to their customers what the advantages were and how to use them. You might be able to ask around at your local shops to see if they have one laying around,but they are still available.

I don't think you understand how it works.

Presuming you are using the same skewer, you set this up just like how you want it. There is a set screw in the end that you then turn in so that the set screw hits the end of the skewer. That way, when you remove the wheel and then replace it, the skewer is in exactly the same place, the exact same spacing between the two ends of the skewer etc... The whole idea is that you can exactly replicate the set up you had before you removed the wheel.
