I put the new tire and tube on after the "pinch flat" the next day, then after that on its first ride out second spoke broke. As far as both situations.....I was riding along on flat even smooth pavement & the tube simply deflated suddenly and the spoke suddenly snapped respectively. I carefully matched the rim, tube, and tire, and found no correlation, i even was careful to see if anything fell out as i took the tube out & tire off, but nothing did. The rim tape was likely to blame & who knows about the tire. I have nothing to gain from riding stupid and hitting road holes and going up driveway lips too hard.

I have not had this bike for two years, i got it in april.

I have not ridden a few hundred miles, and the wheel was built wrong, then fiddled with wrong and 7 spokes were replaced all told. I do not touch the wheels as that is not an area where i have any expertise. I leaened about 90% of what i know since buying this bike & joining here. Ive never had a spoke do anything but what it was supposed to, never touched any of the wheels on any of my bike. I'm not a bicycle mechanic, its not my skill area to do that stuff. My skill area is riding, and making sense of specs and how they might translate into real world use. The "master mechanics" (thats how they were referred to) are supposed to take care of those things, as that is their job.

In essence , i got a brand new bike, and it was not assembled correctly then it was not serviced correctly. They did not do their job of making sure it was road ready & safe. Saying i had anything to do with the tire coming apart, literally is insulting and has no basis in reality. I never even touched the tires till stuff started going wrong.

I dunno why i'm even bothering to explain all of this. This bike is not some toy to me, it is literally the first thing ive ever owned that i would run into my house and save if my house were on fire. I treat it like gold, i baby it, i'm massively cautions and paranoid about every small detail every squeek every smudge or scratch. To imply that my hand was involved in these problems is beyond absurd.

I didn't just screw around with the brakes, i downloaded the tektro instruction manual, thats how i knew it was wrongly adjusted to begin with.

Ugh, you know i'm just gonna shut my trap and not bother anymore since clearly i'm some kind of hapless buffoon.

Don't take it so personally. Pretty sure he wasn't trying to insult you by saying it was in your control. You know anyone who has ridden for years has had mystery blow outs, flats, brakes going wonky, etc... But he was addressing you that way because you come off as not very knowledgeable, and your post was very vague and you were implying because one thing went wrong, the other thing that went wrong was their fault too. Which is why specific questions were asked of you. Anyone who has worked in a repair service business knows how often ignorance leads to people blaming you for everything under the sun.

I don't doubt the wheels were tensioned incorrectly OR defective in some build quality, I mean breezer puts out a lot for the money, which usually means wheel sets aren't the greatest.

I find Breezer quite poor for the money.

Over this when I was a conference in Boulder:

Trail Ridge Road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That was about 10 years ago and now I have no hair and no wedding band

edit:

it was this:

but without crappy beer (schanpps from the Dutch guy before I understood schnapps and lived in Europe) and no Youtube back then!

North on I25? Look left.

Southbound? On your right.

I70, on a limb--I'll assume west. Press on.

See that bump?

Go over it.

I know that you probably don't mean it about Denver but I'll give you more details on the bike.

It's a 1998 Nashbar Flashback. It's an aluminum frame, probably made by Kinesis. It looks a bit different from that photo currently

Here's the winter dress

As the bike currently sits, it has White Industry hubs laced with silver Alpine III (meanwhile won't like that) to Velocity Aeroheat rims. The crank is an Shimano XT external bearing, the shifters are Sram X7 triggers, Sram X7 front and rear derailers. Brakes are Paul's Touring (in blue), Funky Monkey hanger, Moon Unit straddle carriers and Avid cantilever brake levers. The bars and the stem are Race Face (stem is silver and the bars are blue). Seatpost is a Deda silver carrying a Brooks B-17N. Headset is a Chris King threadless.
The rear rack is a Soma Deco.

The bike is real sweet ride. I've actually owned 3 of them. One was stolen (the only bike I've ever had stolen) and one I broke. You can occasionally pick one up on Fleabay or Craigslist but they aren't all that common. You can also order a steel version from RetroTec but they cost $1500 to $1700 for a plain jane version. You can also get a titanium one that is similar for about $1700 from Monster Bicycle Co.

Payment packaging. If he doesn't find those features useful, the bike is not a good value. That's why most bikes are sold without accessories.

Obviously if those are desirable accessories for you the bike stacks up against the competition + price of accessories better.

The town/utility bike options readily available in US are limited, and breezer seems to be the most kit for the money. I paid a lot less than MSRP, its an infinity not an 8, and it was a scratch & dent. The frame & fork are uptown 8, yes, but thats all the company had on hand i imagine to replace the damaged infinity frame.

In general, I position the brake levers to be at approximately the same angle as the arms. This makes for minimal finger travel. Fingers should be an extension of the arm. If your bars are at shoulder level. You'll want your levers to stick out forwards. If your bars are lower, you'll want the levers to hang down accordingly.

Prophete Alu-City GENIESSER 2.5 - Lidl Deutschland - lidl.de

€329, which works out to about $300USD without tax.

I've had a few bikes to lock up outside 24/7 and they're good for about 5 years of daily usage with zero maintenance until the tires (which are quite nice at that price point) wear out.

Okay, I see what you mean now. Those are not available in the US, I'm basing my opinion on what is available in local brick&mortar stores.

Though €329 converts to $440 right now. Not that prices necessarily have anything to do with exchange rate.

edit: Hell, $300 barely gets you a cheap fixie/ss here.

Aldi/Lidi aren't even the discount German chains.

Penny (Startseite)
Netto (NETTO.de - Nur echt mit dem Scottie.)

are cheaper in Frankfurt and carry OK bikes for between €150 and €200.

i'm a little low on Schokopudding right now:

I had no idea, I just wanted to head off the 'bikes direct and nashbar and (internet retailer ____)sell wonderfully equipped bikes for cheap' rebuttal.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a niche product from someplace that can't maintain and repair it for me, but that's just me. If I could do that stuff myself, I wouldn't care so much however.

Honestly, it's a great time to learn (same with cars, if you have one). Most of those places sell tools, clothing and maps as well.

It's on the agenda. But the LBS I bought from gives free maintenance for a year, which is until next January.
