Love the comraderie here

I don't mean to turn this thread into some kind of love-in, but I do enjoy reading and posting in this sub-forum. There something about the subject that brings out the best in people. You are all passionate about it and it's inspired me to ride (to work) much later into the season than I had ever expected. I love the support, encouragement, and comraderie (sp?) around here. So different from the Road Cycling forum.

This is a fun forum to check in on. Even when some start to get opinionated on mirrors, day time lights, lycra, climage change, etc. I rarely even look at the other forums.

This is the one cycling forum I check nearly every day. We're all in it together, Bro.

What's funny is that I've come to identify with bike commuting much more so than racing and recreational riding over the years. I've sold all of my racing bikes except one, my De Bernardi, and got rid of my two Eddy Merckx bikes that I once thought I would keep to the grave. I don't buy any bikes/frames now unless they can double as commuters -- so I've got two touring bikes, a sport touring bike and a cyclo crosser in addition to the Italian racer.

Commuting has also sparked my interest in bike touring, and I'm doing that more than ever. I rode on 5 tours this year, two that were weeklong, and three weekend trips. There are a lot of similarities between commuting and touring, and it's not much of a leap to jump from one to the other.

Yet thousands of us ride and commute here in the US with great success.

Seriously that sort of post doesn't contribute to support and encouragement at all.

While it might be true that in many European countries the network of roads and paths, as well as support from local governments and the general attitude is more conducive for cycling, many of us don't live in Europe. We cycle here in NA where cyclist and motorist have a near-adversarial relationship, and the prevailing attitude among the public toward cyclist is one of disdain,..okay, maybe too strong a word. So here we need the support of fellow cyclists in a community/forum like this.

You, on the other hand, live in Europe, so perhaps you don't need to have the support and encouragement. So maybe go somewhere else to gloat.

Actually, I think the person is comparing cycling in Europe to cycling in the Brazilian rain forest. Probably is much better, but I agree, completely irrelevant to the topic.

But don't ya see? This is part of the comradery here: acidfast makes a snobbish post and everyone from other continents get to bash him for doing so.

I agree, Great people/cyclist on this sub-forum. When I have a question I always ask it on this subforum because commuters have seen it all and done it all...

I think that people need to highlight the entire text message in my post.

It's a joke people ... let me know when you see it ... it's called self-parody.

I don't mind cutting this guy some slack; sometimes a joke just doesn't go over very well in a text format. And any guy who likes to stick his pants in the freezer must have at least a little bit of a sense of humour.

That's how I interpreted it. But I also enjoy your commentaries and occasional barbs.

Yeah I didn't highlight it and didn't see the joke until you mentioned it.

Any who, this is a great collection of forum users who I enjoy the banter with.

I've spent many years helping hundreds of people commute and shop on bikes. It has been a passionate mission of mine.

I do errands on my bike, and I rarely go out for a fun ride, since I get almost enough fun just going where I have to go. I recently decided I need to ride more, so I'll take fun rides more often. Yesterday, a friend was visiting from Ireland, and I showed him around NYC a bit on bike. We had fun. I had a rehearsal to attend in the evening, so we rode over the Brooklyn Bridge together. When we got to the Brooklyn side, we said goodbye and I went ahead. That bridge has some spectacular views. It's a feast for the eyes, day or night.

I too love this forum. I hardly go check other subforums, with the except to go over to C&V and look at pictures. Every now and again I'll find myself in the 41 (that's the roadie one, right?) but quickly lose interest in them. But that's only when I can't read another thread asking for a tire recommendation. Tire recommendations should be a sticky.

I would describe jokes or parodies dependent on others having some reason to seek out a hidden message written in an invisible format such as white text on a white background, as silly-willy, at best.

I've learned a lot through debate here on various topics. I suppose I have those who I disagree with the most to thank for that.

Agreed. Every sub-forum has its own personality. My two favorites are here and the Clydesdales and Athenas, because they're both helpful and cordial.
