Big Apple Liteskins discontinued. lightweight, high-volume 26" balloons available?
I'm looking to try some high-volume 26" tires on a commuter, but I'm disauded by the weight on these things. A Schwalbe Fat Frank is over 900g in some sizes
Schwalbe used to make a light version of the Big Apple called a liteskin, but it was discontinued a few years ago.
Does anybody know of a brand doing something similar?
Thanks in advance
How wide are you looking for? Schwalbe Marathon Supremes and Kojaks both come in 2" and are pretty light. I use 2" MS's on an all-alloy bike and they ride good.
C'dale BBU('05 and '09)/Super Six/Hooligan8and 3,Kona Dew Deluxe,Novara Buzz/Safari,Surly Big Dummy,Marin Pt Reyes,Giant Defy 1,Schwinn DBX SuperSport,Dahon Speed Pro TT,Brompton S6L
I think 26 x 2.0" would suffice for what I'm looking for. I have Supremes in 700c sizes and love them, but the price is a little high at ~$75 a tire for what I'm doing now (cheapy cannondale MTB commuter conversion).
I'll check out the Kojak suggestion. thanks
Try Panaracer Pasela. The used 26x1.75 Paselas. Their suppleness gives them such a nice ride. Paselas are relatively inexpensive. 2" Schwalbe Kojaks are better than Apples but not nice as Paselas. Compass tires (26x1.75) are a half step better than Paselas but a lot more expensive. By better ride, I mean float over bumps and are easier to peddle so they perform better except in flat resistance. My rate of flats is low enough for me stay with Compass. I had one flat in close to a year and it appears to be a tube failure. I could no evidence that the tire was penetrated. The tube split at the seam.
