My cross-check has never been in a CX race, so in that sense it is not "converted", but since it is by name a CX bike I'll post it along with the rest. Also, this pic is wearing 29x2 knobby tires that would qualify it it as Monstercross:

Attachment 332698

Since then I have abandoned the Vee V12 tires due to excessively rapid wear. I splurged on a pair of Marathon Supremes in 29x2. Still plenty of room in the front, but they just barely fit in the back.

Also it normally wears a rack, but here in SoCal I don't bother with fenders.

I have two, but the SS gets all the love, so it gets the picture. Since this was taken, I have put a new rack on it (a Racktime) and will soon be getting new fenders. This bike is weating 32mm Paselas, the other 32mm Vittoria Randonneur Pro City tires. I also have a set of 37mm WTB All-Terrains handy for the winter.

can you fit the 37mm under your fenders or do you take your fenders off?

I just noticed that it has the 37s on under the fenders in the picture. The trick is to get 45mm fenders.

@bigbenaugust i did not realize that it had a fender on the rear wheel. It is not as wrapped around the tire as my fender is. Do you just use 45mm fenders for either size tires you run? or do you switch them as well? I have 700X28 on bike and bought 35mm fenders and I dont think i can get wider fenders on the back for sure.

The rear is a cheap hack of a fender made from 2" strips of plastic that I had handy at the time. It will soon get a proper matching set of 45mm fenders. And yes, they are the same fenders regardless of tire width, I do have to adjust the clearance a little when switching tires.

Hijacking the thread but I'm looking at this same Masi to become my daily commuter/occasional tourer, any problems?

It has been perfect for my needs (I have a 10 mile round trip commute through San Francisco). In its stock form, the components are on the low-end, but serviceable. The frame seems to be well finished and has some nice detailing, like the embossed "Masi" on the fork crown and bottom bracket. I upgraded the components, and added fenders, a rack and lighting and had no problems with any of the attachment points.

The only minor issue is with some fork shudder when braking. After reading up on the issue, I changed the brakes from the stock Tektro Oryx to a set of Tektro CR720 cantilevers with Yokozuna pads. It is better, but not entirely gone.

Very helpful - other than you have hills and I have snow our riding sounds very similar! Thanks

Fork-mounted brake hanger should clear that right up.

Another Volpe here! Switched to flat bars when I got it because the brifters were completely gummed up, and the frame is too small. Got one of the brifters in working order, will have to send the other away at some point (there is a guy who can fix 7 and 8 speed shimano brifters for like $35).

A buddy of mine worked at a bike shop and someone brought this bike in that he got at a yardsale for dirt cheap. $100 later it was mine. It honestly had so little wear on it I would be surprised if someone rode it for more than 50 miles before it sat in their garage for 10-15 years. The whole cockpit redo was free - I have some good friends for sure. It's been a great commuter so far.
That stem, though!

Thanks for the suggestion! @arsprod The Masi CX fork already has the proper mounting hole for the hanger, so it should be fairly straightforward.

I found that on my CrossCheck I had to drill it out a hair larger, but that turned out to be easier than I worried.

Here's my Cross Check in my office. The top tube pad is synthetic leather bar tape. The drive train is 1x8. My tires are 32mm schwalbe marathon.

Thanks! Yeah, I just wrapped some leftover fake-leather bar tape around it, the same as I would with bars. I did it because my car bike rack kept grinding the cable into the top tube.

@bmthom.gis, your Volpe appears to be of the same year and color as mine. Do you know what year? I know mine is from around 1995.

Here is a more recent and better-lit picture.
