Good luck with your comfortable commuting bike when you save up your pennies to buy it all by yourself.
That looks like pure comfort. I bet she would be more comfortable to ride then any bike.

Just got home from work.

Rode home in wool dress pants, button down shirt, and tie. No saddle sores that I am aware of. Now I admit that I did ride to work wearing the full kit, as I took a 20-mile detour in order to do the interval set I had planned today. It is honestly the most comfortable bike I have ever owned. One reason is the saddle, which looks to be the same Specialized Romin that's on that Venge.

It's even more comfortable with my race wheels, which are super supple Vittoria tubulars. Sadly, I can't afford to commute on tubulars, but I guess that's one of the compromises we all have to make.

You just need to ride more. Anyone who trains for racing will be riding between 10-25 hrs/wk and they'll be comfortable the whole time. Not everyone needs saddle cream and they certainly don't use if for short rides used for commuting.

I don't think the "data" (commuter bike pics thread) supports your argument. The popularity of a rack + pannier setup among commuters here suggests that I'm not the only one who finds hauling load on their back on long rides to be tedious. I'm not sure why you would jump to the conclusion that my bike doesn't fit properly or that I have a weak back, neither of which are true (bike fits fine and I squat 315lbs for reps). If it works for you then by all means, but you shouldn't take it as some sort of universal truth.

You keep saying that word (commuting). I do not think it means what you think it means.

Anyone who trains/practices in professional race cars probably does so in a very cramped and restricted environment and has to tolerate a very harsh ride.
I doubt if most race car drivers commute to work in a vehicle with similar lack of comfort amenities.

Crap....After all these years,I was suppose to be worried about what other riders do...

Other riders can do as they please....I don't care what they do.If they do stupid stuff,I'll stay out of the way and watch.

Trust me,riding in L.A. I see LOTS of stupid stuff at the snails pace I ride.

I did a few thousand miles of commuting this year, all on a cramped, less than ideal bike with no racks or panniers, no gears, and a full bag on my back......with a smile on my face the whole time. I must be doing it all wrong

What annoys me most is cyclists who are annoyed by trackstanding and have problems with cyclists that don't like a good wheelsucker.

Add a little mold, and I'm in heaven. I'm all for vegans, to help keep prices down on nonvegan stuff.

I've never seen another bike commuter and only rarely see pedestrians. It's sad but cars rule around here. My coworkers will hop in their cars and drive to the dairy queen less than a 1/4 mile from our office. I usually beat them their walking! To each their own.

Just like cyclists probably don't ride in the drops while commuting to work. There are only three contact points on a bike. If you're reasonably flexible and not fat there's nothing uncomfortable about riding a racing bike as you have multiple hand positions allowing a number of riding postures.

I think hybrid/commuter bikes are comfortable mainly because people don't spend much time riding them.

That doesn't even come close to answering why you assume that bike's uncomfortable. That's so off I think your answer might have boarded MH370.

Come on. Explain why you assume it's uncomfortable.
Because it's not. If you need more of an explanation, you should seek help.

Who the heck cares what kind of bike a person commutes on?? I commute on a road bike because that's what is best suited for my 32 mile commute.

It does make it less useful. How do you carry your briefcase to work? Stop off at the store and pick up a few things. Commuting is not a sports activity and should not be treated as such.

Yes any bike can be use to commute, but some are better at the job than others. Just as you can run the tour de france on any bike, some will be better suited.

The idea that any bike is ok is silly long term.

I fashion my commute to fit the bike, rather than the bike to fit the commute. For example I have no need to carry work items to home and back. I don’t plan on any stops that would make me leave my high level carbon fiber bike unattended, if I can’t bring it inside (I don’t carry a lock). Shopping for bulky items is done mostly on weekends. Same situation applies when I use my more typical commuter-beater mountain bike with a rack and pannier.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read, for too many reasons.

Also, who gets annoyed by cyclists track standing? It seems more convenient and practical if you can do it.
