He's got a pretty good streak going. And a pretty good beard.

Ah, yeah, I saw that story about Fraser. I don't know him myself, but one of my co-workers does. I've been out commuting in this weather all winter too, but no one wrote a news story about me (granted, his commute is longer than mine, and my balaclava keeps me from sporting a stylish ice-beard).

Must stop reading idiotic comments on article. Props to Fraser, not sure how he does it without a balaclava though!

What is it with the media and their overstatement of "miles to work"?
Now, 16.5 miles in those temps is nothing to sneeze at, though it looks like that's exactly what he did.

Double down on props to Mr. Fraser, seems like a great guy who likes to bike.
I used to ride to work 12 miles each way in similar weather conditions and found a scarf served well for keeping my lower face warm; a hoodie underneath my outer coat hood kept the rest of my face and head warm. Couldn't do it with only gloves in single digit or - zero temperatures and mittens were the only thing that worked, though after an hour my thumbs would get cold, Keeping toes warm at sub zero is a challenge and I wonder how Mr. Fraser handles that.
Nowadays 6 miles at a time to the swimming pool every day is all I do in such temperature ranges and it is relatively easy even though I'm 68; I agree with Mr. Fraser that it is the miles after an hour or so or riding in extreme cold where the temperature can really start to affect ride comfort.

Ya - awesome. Keep riding. I was pretty excited coming to work today as I was thinking that the worst weather is surely behind us now. It has to be right?

Oh...
It is time for a GoFundMe Campaign to get him $300,000 and a car that he doesn't need.

15 miles each way isn't bad.

I'm most interested in why he rides a fat bike. It looks like all his commute is on paved roads.
And what's on his back?

I'm guessing it is some sort of pouch holding ID cards, money and perhaps a phone for quick access in case of on the road trouble; don't know if phone batteries are reliable when exposed to below 0°F for a sustained time.
I keep my MP3 player and phone inside my coat to keep them functioning/available for use while cycling in extreme cold.

That's a great video and now I know how I look and sound to everyone who says I'm an idiot. BTW, I ride every day for an hour+ with my phone on the bars including sub zero days - zaps the battery a little faster but nothing worse. This is the 3rd or 4th phone I've done this way

Many of the paved roads around here were buried under snow, slush, and ice for a few days. I was wishing that I had a fat bike during my commutes at the time. As for what's on his back...I've no idea. Maybe some kind of electric coat heater device?

I think he's using the wrong bike because there was almost no snow on the ground. He wasn't riding single track either so why not use a hybrid or mountain bike? Unless he was getting some money or free frames from Surly!

Well, depending on which day it was, our snow removal is pretty terrible. A lot of roads were untreated/unplowed for a bit (city has a lot of hills). I know that I've avoided riding my hybrid because they've been bad.

I wonder if we will ever reach a point where "Man Commutes to Work by Bicycle" is not considered sensational news.
