Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Have been looking around my various LBS for a cross bike and about the only one I have found so far is a 2001 Fuji Cross. It is "new" other than sitting there for a couple years lol. What would be a good price point? Is the 01 worth buying or should I look for a newer model/other brand elsewhere?

Looking for a bike to ride road as well as mild off road- gravel roads, dirt trails etc.
Thanks in advance from the FNG

1) Does it fit you? To paraphrase Johnny Cochran " If it doesn't fit, you must not acquire it"

2) What was the original MSRP of the bike and how much does the dealer want for it?

3) What would a newer, comparable bike sell for?

Fit seemed pretty good. MSRP was around $1200 as best as I can figure. He wants $600. New, never been ridden. Just been hanging round his shop the past couple years lol. Dunno what the 05's are selling for, though I think they have 105's all round now whereas the 01 has a Deore front with 105 elsewhere.

Thinking real hard about pulling the trigger on it

How will you use the bike? Is it an all around bike to you or a real cross racer?

In either case, you might ask him to throw in items. Pedals, shoes, jerseys, pants, saddle, carriers, lights, heart monitors and computers all add up.

Just to give you a idea, I picked up a Fuji Cross almost 2 years ago now, on e-bay was 6 months old. Just a few minor scuffs on the shifters, for $600.

Well, I went and picked it up last night. Only had time for a quick 5 mile test ride but it felt pretty good after a few little adjustments. Put a load of laundry in and went to soak in the bath. Heard a great awful noise and thought my washing machine had blown up. Jumped out of the tub and went to see, everything was ok. Couldnt figure out what the noise was till this morning when I was gonna take another quick ride, rear tube had blown while sitting there lol. Also noticed rear brake rubbing the rim so I guess its back to the LBS to get it put right. Still for $600 I think I got a decent bike. Looking forward to putting some better wheels with off road tires on it and getting off the pavement a little
