MTB Conversion 'Cross Tires
I'm converting an old MTB (Kona Lava Dome that bascially has road geometry) for 'cross this winter. PLan was to go 700c, but the bosses are plumb too low. So with 26" wheels, whats a good tire? I'm getting some Maxxis Medusa 1.55s, but I also noticed Conti makes an exessively knobby tire at 1.5, and the normally 'cross-specific Kenda Kwick comes in 26"(tho the smallest I could find was 1.7). Everything else out there (Ritchey Crossbite, etc) seemed way too slick.
Any other suggestions for those of us too cheap to buy a real 'cross bike?

The Kenda tire is not especially thin, but it's a great tire. I got myself a rigid fork and raced a whole season on my mtb on those. You can also go to www.paulcomp.com or paulscomp.com and check out their motobmx brakes, which let you run 700 wheels on a 26" frame. I'm trying those out myself this winter. peace

A friend of mine is considering the same thing. What would the advantage be putting 700's on an mtb?
