Best pedals?
I currently have a Redline Conquest that came with shimano pedals one sided. I am wondering what the views are from some of you experts on the best pedal system for cross? Ease of entry exit when riding a muddy sandy crappy course :-)Are the Speedplay Frogs any good? They claim "self-cleaning" Do they work with standard shoes (with the three hole system?)
I am loosing a lot of time when mud get stuck in my pedals just looking to see if there is anything better out there.
Thanks
Mary

I see alot of people running Crank Brothers Eggbeaters it's what I run also. 4 sided entry and sheds mud easily.

Time ATAC's or Crank Brothers Eggbeaters seem to be the favorites for 'cross. They both feature double-sided (of four-sided) entry. They don't have complicated tension mechanisms, so they tend to function better under awful conditions than other systems.
I don't know about Speedplays. Isn't their tension system recessed in the cleat? If that is the case, then I can't imagine how they could function if they were packed with mud and sand.

I'll second the votes for eggbeaters. I started the cross season on speedplay frogs, but they perform poorly in mud so I switched to eggbeaters, which I like a lot better. The purely mechanical (not spring loaded) nature of the speedplay release mechanism is also not well suited to unclipping effectively during dismounts at speed. I got some eggbeaters from performance for $50, they still have them, they are an older model with some blue anodized parts, and I have had no problems with them.

How many times do we have to talk about this? I must have posted the following five times before.
Speedplay is the best.

Thanks everyone for the input. I decided to go with the Time attac after doing some research on them. Hopefully, my mounts and dismounts will go better :-)

Dude,
Speedplay may work in So. Cal, but where sunny warm temperatures & dry conditions are not part of cyclocross equation, eggbeaters are fantatic!
If you used Speedplay in Portland, Oregon you would do a lot of cursing and running.

I'm going to put my vote in on the TIME ATAC's. I ran Candies last year....and had a hell of a time getting in and out. The TIME's just work better for me all around.
