Lemond Poprad
I got a chance to take one through its paces and thought it was some kind of steal! This one really surprised me.
the one I rode was R 853 tubing and Dura Ace equipped. I hear they originally came with Sora or Tiagra. It was a fantastic ride. I saw them on ebay a while back but thought they were low-end bikes, now I wish I got a frame because they were so cheap!
I found out that it was named after the city where Kelly won the World jr. CX title- Poprad. It is based on his cx bike with the same geometry.
I don't know why LeMond would spec an 853 frame with Tiagra (keep the msrp down, I guess) but this frame really deserves at least a 105/Ultegra mix.
any of you own one? Pics?

In fact, I think the Poprad is specced even lower -- with Sora, no less. I find that a whole lot of mass-market cross bikes come downspecced like that. I guess the figure, if you're going to grunge it up, you probbaly don't want really GOOD components.
Very nice frame, though. It's hard to find 853 at that price point, and the geometry is spot-on. They had a couple at my LBS and I was impressed.
I'm not sure Poprad actually qualifies as a "city" though. Judging from what I saw in the video, there's not much there aside from a lot of snow [wel... it was February]. I'm just relieved they didn't name a bike after the site of the 1998 words...
Can you see yourself riding a Lemond Middelfart?

If I recall correctly, the Poprad frame does not come with rack/fender braze-ons, so I guess that excludes it from the city bike category. Who knows what Lemond is trying to do with that bike. Are Lemond and Merckx bikes still being carefully co-designed and refined by the legends whose names they bear?
