Narrow 26" Knobbies?

I've been thinking of building a CX bike for a small person. The problem is that they will need something like a 46 or 47 cm bike and 700c wheels look a little rediculous on such a frame.

I've been looking around to find a 28 mm or 30 mm 26" knobbie but haven't seen one anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas?

The Kendas are very hard to find and the 26" tire is 1.7" wide instead of the 1.1" to 1.25" that I'm looking for. Thanks for your comments though.

yeah, plus they suck. but they may be your narrowest bet. i had a pair and even though they say 1.7, they aren't that wide.

I know some of the guys I ride with run very narrow knobbies on their MTB's for racing. I'd say less than 1.5" wide-close, but not as narrow as a big cross tire. I can't remember who made them though-maybe WTB.

The only one's I know that have 1.5" knobbies is Continental and they're more "hybrid" than "cross".

I know that you USED to be able to get that size buty danged if I can find them.

cyclintom - The narrowest 26" knobbie I know is 1.3" from Hutchinson. Schwalbe also makes 26"x1.35" knobbies. You can get them from cyclocrossworld.com.

Yeah, just to echo R6G, with a little more specificity. Hutchinson makes a 26x1.3" tire, which is to say 650x32 or33mm. The tire is called the Cross Comp.

CyclocrossWorld.com sells them for 40 bones, but is currently out of stock. A Froogle search turned some up at fullcycles.com for $37.77 each. I think I got mine from Speedgoat, if I recall correctly, but I no longer see them there.

BTW, I really like mine--I use them for both Short Track XC, and the occasional cross race thet is technical enough to warrant using my hardtail.
