how is your tricross? looking for a cross..
 

Hello all,

I was wondering who has a specialized tricross and what your thought of it is. I do know there seems to be a problem with the forks on the 2007 tricross...however, i'm inquirying more about the performance of the bike because I am considering getting one next year (hopefully they will fix the fork problem)

i normally ride on bike trails that consist of 70% paved surface and 30% off-road (dirt trail, gravel trail, grass, etc)

after looking around, the tricross seems to match my riding style, since i am riding for leisure/fitness... I like to have something that is speedy(but will not be racing) on paved surface and off-road, that is comfortable to ride, and fun and easy to ride (don't want to worry about balancing on off-road too much)...

any suggestions?? again, the only choice i have so far is the specialized tricross. (probably the comp series)

i have the tricross 2006 sworks tricross frame, which apparently does not have the front fork issue. this is a great bike.

I have heard great things about the 'non sworks' tricross bikes too, and some seem to have solved their fork issue by invoking the warranty. also: I think have read on this board that the fork issue was resolved on the 2007 tricross. do a search for tricross on this board and you'll get a lot of info.

I have an '07 Tricross that definitely had the fork issue, but two forks later it's resolved. I love the bike, though. Responsive, comfortable, and fairly tough. FWIW, the fork issue is most prevalent on the larger frame sizes.

have a look at the jamis nova, fuji cross series, kona jts, bianchi axis.

all have different strengths and are roughly in the same market. one of the questions is what gear range you need -- will a compact double do?

I have a jts, and use it both as a roadie and as a cross bike

I've had two tricross sports and like the bikes. I have not had any issue with the fork.
The sport is quite heavy for a 'cross bike but it's very versatile and rides well.

I think that the "fork" issue that has been discussed a lot lately is common with many 'cross forks. One "fix" is to move the hanger from the steerer to the crown. See the following link to see what I mean.

This eliminates a lot of the difference in cable tension that occurs when the fork flexes.

adrien - thanks for some other suggestions. as for bike gear range, I haven't put much thoughts into it since I'm looking for a good frame first. however, I am considering a compact double since I don't shift my front gears much anyways...but haven't really tried a compact double so I'm not sure if it will be more difficult on hills. The trails I go to do have ups and downs...with a very few steeper ones..

jbpence - i saw your thread about your tricross, and to be honest, I have my eyes set in that direction at the moment too. I am considering getting a s-works tricross e5 frame and have it custom built.

I've always enjoyed the Specialized brand and a little resistent in trying other brands. Any comments in particular about the frame? pros and cons?

I love mine. I have a 2006 Comp version and although I'm having issues with the rear wheel, it's a solid bike. The comp version is a bit lighter than the sport version. It seems pretty comparable to your standard road bike in weight. The 2007 version has the carbon seat stays and the zert things. Also comes as a triple. Wish I would have waited for that. Don't think it'd be good for any racing though. Mine had a compact double, but was switched out for a standard double. Much faster on the roads. I think you'll like it for the riding you're describing.
