redline conquest
My LBS has a good deal (I think) on an 07 redline conquest for 800. I'm looking to buy it for everyday training rides and maybe some light touring eventually. Any advice on which components are crap and should be traded/replaced? Thanks

it's a nice bike but we can't help you unless you post the exact spec of the bike you're buying

Personally, I'd immediately change saddle (selle italia prolink), pedals (time atac) and tyres (specialized armadillo) first but that will be purely personal preference.
Then, after a couple of months riding or a few 100km I'd think about changing the gearing (cassette + chainrings) but only if I was struggling with over/under gearing.
Eventually, replacing the shifters with the next model up in the shamino range, if they're compatible, would probably make the shifting more crisp and precise.

Yeah, but does it come with fitting and free tuneup (well, "free" at a later date) and maybe minor repairs and/or help?
OP: the tires are probably wrong for road usage; you want smooth, not knobby, for road riding. Wide is fine, as it will smooth out the ride, but most road bikes use more narrow tires than 35mm.

If the LBS can match the best online price and throw in a fitting and a check up a month later, then it's a good deal.

You want to tour? Get a touring bike, because the all aluminum conquest may be too harsh day in and day out on a tour. A surly cross check would be a great in-between choice and will give you more rack mounts than the redline.

hello, I paid $599 for the exact same bike at performance. I know the performance in Ventura, CA has one more conquest in stock. It's a 54cm and green. If you call them, they can transfer the bike to your local store and you should get the same price. If they give you any hassle on the price i can always Email you a copy of my reciept for proof. Let me know, and good luck!
