yeah, specialized tried to make theirs pretty racey. i wouldn't want to race cross on a carbon bike that i paid for, but then again i need to lose a bunch more weight off my gut before i worry about my frame.

yeah, i was talking about the singlecross. agreed that it looks bizarre, but it's one of the lighter ss bikes on the market.

no shortage of light gearie frames though, there's always magic gears and tensioners.

im definitely thinking more and more about getting a regular frame and one of those eno hubs. the idea just doesnt feel right to me though

just get a tensioner like the surly or soul instead. As nice as white hubs are, the eno hub kinda sucks with canti brakes. When you adjust chain tension it changes the height of your brake. my friend has an eno hub with a double double and it makes weird vibrations at the rim surface at low speeds. Get a geared frame. and a tensioner. I might run singlespeed this for some of this season this was on my cdale. get a tensioner, cheaper and better function for cross!

Id rather stay away from a tensioner because I am not keen on the loss of torque. Last year I did back to back races with the first being on my SS and the second on the geared and the hardest thing for me to over come was the loss of torque

I have couple friends who ride for the cannondale factory team. They ride the F29 mtb with the surly chaintensioner. They set it up however so the chain tensioner is below the chain pushing up toward the frame. This seems to work well becuase they set of the chain length as if the bike has horizontal dropouts and if it 1 link off just push up a little slack, instead of running the tensioner downin the direction like a two pulley der.

Have you thought about racing out your san jose? not like it's not race ready now, but you could hook up a carbon fork, new wheels and an external bearing BB/crankset and you could shave a lot of weight off the san jose. the local bianchi rep did charm city cross this year with a raced out san jose and it was beautiful. then you would have a spare wheelset too.

v, thats probably what I am going to do. 2 or 3 sets of tubular wheels and some other upgrades to the san jose. I just dont know enough to know what should be upgraded.

Saw a local shop rat racing a San Jose with a Bianchi Carbon fork and some lighter wheels I think the fork wa soff of an Axis, but anyways, he beat me, and I was riding geared

I really like Lithuania's model of the San Jose. I guess if I was going to pimp it out I'd go with:
- 2 sets of DT 240/DT Revolution/Mavic Reflex wheels
- Thomson seatpost/stem
- FSA Energy cranks
- Alpha Q fork.

Basically, how I'm going to build up my Rob Roy group buy frame.
