Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Potential Pedalforce Cross Bike

Was thinking about getting into cross in the fall and ran across this thread over at weenies.... I'm reposting it with the permission of the OP:

Followed up with an email to Mike at PedalForce.com about getting a carbon cross frame added to the product suite. His reply this morning was they are considering it for later this year. No details on weight targets, etc. Since my cross season starts in mid/late September it would be ideal to have details ASAP and the frame delivered by August. If you curious like me maybe dropping Mike an email at info@pedalforce.com will get the project moving.

Since PF prices for frames are usually ridiculously good (especially on group buy) I would think that it would be worthwhile to cross-post here.

PedalForce cross bike is a go

I am going to resurrect this thread. PedalForce is going to go ahead with a carbon fiber cross bike in the next month or so...

We will most likely be launching one in the next month. The geometry of the frame is attached. Watch for it on our website.
I attached the file they sent me to this post. Hoping for a group buy!

Geometry is on the weightweenies forum.

Unfortunately, I just bought a 'cross bike. My road bike is a Pedal Force ZX3 and I have been extremely happy with it.

I hope they handle a potential 'cross group buy like the road (menu of component options) group buys and not the mountain bike (component packages) and TT (no components) group buys. This could be very cool.

If they follow previous practice, a group buy would require a lengthy lead time. Buyers would receive their bikes just about the time cyclocross season was over.

Damn I just bought a new cross bike... but I may have to whip out the plastic if there is a group buy.

I agree the lead in time on a group buy would be too long for this season... But frankly I don't care that much if it is, I'll just use it next season.

Will the frame have caliper mount tabs? If so, I'm interested.

GREAT point! I would find a way to sell my new bike and get in on a group buy if components are chosen menu-style and the frame/fork choices are disk-ready.

Details should be out next month. PedalForce seems to usually do group buys as they introduce new models and they definitely know of the interest - I asked permission before posting this stuff. Usually they let you spec out the bike entirely, so it should be easy to put together a pretty decent package.

I definitely am excited and can't wait for more details (such as pricing).

What's a good guess on the price?

Historically, depending on the number of orders -- around $500 or even a few dollars less for the frame alone.

I haven't raced cross in some time, but when I did my bike took a pretty good beating. What's the general feeling about how carbon fiber will hold up? I know there are carbon mountain bikes out there, but I don't see many (any?) of them in the wild.

Most of my 'cross crashes have involved washing the front end and landing in the slick mud, grass, etc., unlike mountain biking where there's a much greater chance of the frame impacting a rock, tree, etc.

Personally I'd shy away from carbon bars and carbon seatposts but I don't think carbon frames are a terrible idea, provided there isn't a horrible cost premium. In the case of a Pedal Force group buy, the cost wouldn't be prohibitive at all, so it seems like a great offer.
