Winwood fork ride quality?

Howdy

I sold my Surly Crosscheck this winter and purchased a used and rare GSR Forza Cross. The GSR came with a Wound Up fork that was way to stiff for may taste, I ride mostly on the road in the summer and on gravel roads in the winter. I sold the Wound Up and put on a touring fork I had around to use temporarily. I loved the ride of the Surly fork and may just get one but was wondering how the Winwood carbonforks rides? Anyone riding one of these that can offer an opinion?

Thanks

Tim

I think you'll varying opinions as usual. I've heard some good things. However, my friend has one on his Salsa Las Cruces. On 3 separate occasions, he's had severe fork shudder, mostly on road descents > 25 MPH. I'm sure it's due to the whole setup of his fork, headset, and frame, so YMMV. But it would scare me...

i've never had any trouble with the winwood. i bought it mostly for weight saving over my steel fork [when i have to hoist my bike three times a lap, i can get pretty weight conscious]. the ride quality is quite good, though the difference over the steel fork in that respect isn't dramatic, particularly when you run 30's or 35's at 60-70 psi. the tires do most of the shock absorbing. i did ride my 'cross bike as a road bike with 23 tires this spring and rather liked the winwood's ride quality, though.

Thanks for the responses my LBS is getting me a Surly fork for $65 and I know I already like that one, I'll just live with the few extra ounces.
