Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

800-1500 cross bike for taller rider help plz kthx

I want a cross bike to use as a commuter/entry level racer. I am 6'6" and around 240 quite muscular and not as lite as the average cyclist. That said looking to spend anywhere between 800 and 1500 I am trying to figure out what bike I should get. My typical LBS only carries Trek and Specialized so I tested out a tricross sport and it wasn't bad but I don't want to limit myself to those two brands.

any suggestions would be much appreciated. thx

You know discs aren't UCI legal if you want to race, right?

Redline Conquest will take discs. Fuji Cross Pro is a nice bike in your price range but no discs. Lemond Poprad Disc is no longer sold, but there are some out there still. Poprad is a sweet bike.

The Gary Fisher Presidio is said to be the Poprad reincarnate. Its available used and even new at reduced prices.

I don't race, just enjoy the set up of a cross bike for the type of riding I do. I went to the LBS with a friend who was buying a mountain bike and spied a Scott CX Team, new hanging on the wall in my size. I wasn't budgeting for a bike til spring but the guy quoted some ridiculous price of 47% off, and that and my 45 min test ride left me awake that night so the next day it came home with me. My point is just do some shopping and test riding cause the deals are out there.

Raleigh RX 1.0: https://www.raleighusa.com/bikes/road/rx1/
My LBS has two of these and they are very nice. BB30 and Rival!

Giant TCX2: https://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-us....2/3889/36630/

These have disc brakes, although you might have to do a custom build on a frame.
