Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Thinking of crossing out my old Trek...

Have a '77 Trek 504, that i've been really enjoying on the road. However, a full carbon/full campy bike just presented itself at a ridiculous price, so I'm jumping on it. Just before that appeared, I found a score on some older Ultegra components, shifters/brakes/der's/9 speed cassette/bb. Thinking of putting those on the Trek, along with the old toe clips, and making it into a cross/town/fun bike. So help me refine my plan!

Thinking to do a cold set to spread the stays 10mm to accept the 9-speed. Figure I'll need to buy a new rear wheel as shifting from the freewheel to cassette. Going to stick with the Ultegra brakes unless canti's are really THAT much better. Keeping the supercomfy Avocet Touring II saddle, and stock bars/stem/post.

Biggest question is on wheels/tires, although i welcome any insights...On 27x1.25 now, and am tempted to stick with them. Thoughts? Thanks!
