Rear fender legal in races?
Is it typically legal to run a rear backscratcher style fender in lower level CX races?
I've never seen one run, but I hate having a wet diaper and would be riding to and from races.

No idea why it would be illegal.

You could probably do it if you wanted to, but I really don't think it would do what you want it to. Once the rain kicks in (which it seems it already has), mud will be flying everywhere. You might keep your own mud off you, but everyone else's mud will still hit you.
I'd say bringing a towel and a change of clothes is the way to go.

Yeah, I'm not bothered too much by a general wetness and can even handle wet shoes for a few hours, but wet butt is the WORST! Riding home today with the backscratcher was no problem for me. Head, shoulders, shoes, socks, bottom 6" of shorts were soaked, but my butt was practically bone dry when I got home.
I'm not heading out to Hood River for this weekend's races, but hopefully can get out to Barlow. I'd rather bring a light pack, but I guess I'll load up with towel and extra clothes next week. Just in case they won't let me line up with the backscratcher.

So, did you make it out to Barlow? I saw a guy with a backscratcher on his way to the race, and I wondered if it was you.

It is probably not legal for races. Many other type of "bolt on" accessories are not legal so I'd imagine the same would apply to the fender. Whether or not the fender is legal for use in a race it would just get in the way of your dismounts.

OBRA may not care, but having a fender stay put during a race seems..er.. optimistic. I doubt it would keep your velvet ass dry.

I missed out on Barlow because of work. I did try some flying mounts with fender in place and had no problems - 26" rims with 1.5" tires probably help in that regard.
I reckon cycling nude is legal in Oregon so surely a brief nude transition from race wear to ride home wear is acceptable.

Sure, at least 'til I got to the river. They don't take kindly to nekkid cyclists in the City of Vancouver. They're probably not too fond of the same up here in unicorporated Clark County either

Not at Alpenrose, there have been "problems." Apparently someone was changing near the softball fields and the kids got a good view. there was an e-mail about it.

I don't know if you've made it out to a race yet (I hope you at least did David Douglas, up in your backyard), but I did see several guys in the beginner race with back scratchers. I'm still skeptical about how much good it did them. Somebody made a reference to making "slime angels." Yeah...I did that.
