Pavement-friendly clinchers
I'm looking for some pavement-friendly clinchers that can handle hardpacked dirt roads/trails (no racing, no mud).
Anyone have experience with the following?
https://www.cyclocrossworld.com/Ritch...her_p_210.html
https://www.cyclocrossworld.com/Kenda...her_p_211.html
https://www.cyclocrossworld.com/Cleme...her_p_594.html
https://www.cyclocrossworld.com/Vitto...her_p_218.html
https://www.cyclocrossworld.com/Conti...her_p_653.html
To put things into perspective, I currently alternate between Vittoria slicks (Rando Hypers) and Conti Contacts, and want something that'll offer more cornering traction w/o being too "squirmy" on pavement.

I like the Maxxis Raze. Great all-rounder for cross but not a mud tire (packs up too much). On pavement, rolls smoothly and seems more predictable cornering than the typical semi-slick with knobs on the side.
Also, I really like the rubber and sidewalls. Pretty light but still tough.

I liked those Maxxis Raze too but I just switched to kenda small block 8s and they seem like they would fit the bill.

WTB Allterrainasaurus, in 32/32..
Conti travel contact, comes in a bit wider, 37.. knobs just on the edges.
center band, slick, so rolls on pavement, great.
Its their adventure tire for mixed paved and not tours.

I've only experience with the Speedmax and The Clements (though mive were tubular, similar tread) Both will do as you wish. I really liked the Speedmax's because of the side knobs and file tread. My guess is any of those will work for what you want.

It turns out that 700x40 Ritchey SpeedMax Cross tires are really undersized. When mounted on 23mm (outside/outside) rims, they only measure 34.25mm (and yes, I checked the size on the hot patch and casing).
Anyone know of a tire with an actual width in the 38-40mm range?

I've used the Kenda Small Block Eights. They corner well on pavement but hum on straightaways. They did well with hard-pack and grassy areas. Don't use them in muddy conditions; they pack up too quickly.

I've never seen cross tires bigger than 35. It's not unusual for a tire to not actually measure up to it's claimed width. Same as road tires. And from what I understand most companies put a 32 tread on their larger 34 tires so you actually have less tread on the edges where you need it. so FWIW I only buy 32's.

I have a Michelin tire that is the same as the Clement tire. I can use it on pavement and have used it on trails I use my mtb on and had no control issues at all. Like it alot, only issue some will have a is that it listed as a 42mm tire and won't fit some frames. I'm not sure if that is correct as my continental cyclocross tires are 42 as well and the Michelin is wider by 4 mm. Not sure which is incorrect.

How about Schwalbe Sammy Slicks?
Similar style to Vittoria XN but I've used them on tarmac & hard-pack dirt recently and they've been excellent.
Roll quite fast too.
