Extra large (63-64cm) cyclocross bikes?

It seems like most bikes stop at 58, where in the road bike world most stop at 60-61.

If ride a 64cm road bike (which was a pain to find), what size CX bike should I be on (approximately)? Based on what's out there, I'm guessing something slightly smaller than my road bike?

Soma offers some very large sizes, including a 66, if you are looking at steel framesets.

The 62cm "cross check" looks great but I really want alu or carbon and it looks like they only do steel.

When I'm looking at geometries, should the CX bike be similar (seat tube, top tube, reach, and stack are what I believe to be the most important to fitment?) to my road bike that I know fits perfectly?

Top-tube length is key. This number, combined with the stem length and the seat-tube angle, will determine if the reach is correct. Seat-tube length is usually irrelevant. The head-tube length also influences the saddle to handlebar drop.

Changing the stem length and angle and adding or reducing spacers can fine tune the fit, if the top-tube length is approximately correct.

Your Trek has a 59.8cm virtual (aka effective) top-tube length. If that fits perfectly, seek out a bike with that dimensional value, within a few mm.

My bikes have virtual top-tube length of 58.5 to 60.0, with 59cm being ideal for me. I simply change the stem to achieve the fit I am seeking.

Head-tube length will not be comparable between road bikes and Cyclocross bikes. Cyclocross bikes have longer forks with shorter head-tubes, in most cases.

Thanks. That is literally the most useful response I've ever received on a forum.

My road bike has an effective top tube of 61cm and I'm using a 120mm stem. So on my CX bike I really need to get another 61cm top tube, right? I've heard you don't really want to go beyond a 120mm stem.

I agree and I also avoid a 130mm stem on my bikes. I use a 120mm on my bikes with a 59cm effective top-tube, and a 110mm on a 60cm effective top-tube. I'm 6' 0" but have long limbs and like a more stretched out fit.

Black Mountain Cycles Monster Cross comes in a 65cm with a 61cm top tube. I only have a 90mm stem on it now, I had a 120 and it was way too long for me. Most 64cm bikes I need a 120 stem because the top tubes are usually under 60cm.

Probably not a true cyclocross bike, but easily the most comfortable for a long ride.
