Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

schwinn Supersport DBX vs. Jake the Snake

I have been wanting to get an new road bike (for a long time) since my road bike is out of comission. Just recently i saw the new schwinn Supersport Dbx. I like how it is a multipurpose bike, (which i didn't like my road bike i didn't feel safe to hop curbs or the like). You can switch out different size wheels up to 26 inch wheels i think. also i like the disc brakes, not that i'll need them anytime soon, but in rainy whether they'll help (though its almost summer). also like the drop bars and the rack eyelet for a rear rack. And just the overall look of the bike. But i also saw the jake the snake which has a lot of the same features minus the disc brakes and the support for a rear rack, that i'll put on. But the jake seems to have better components... So i am not sure which to go with. Also i don't know if its wise to get a schwinn, where maybe in the past it was a quality company... now much of bikes are sold at walmarts. Though this particular one i'll get at performance bike. Any comments would be appriecated. Thanks.

I have similar questions about the DBX. Any idea on the sizing? I am 6'2" and want to know if I need a large or X-large.

Has anybody ridden one a DBX?

The Supersport DBX is not really a Cyclocross bike. It is more aimed at recreational riders who want a fast riding bike, but without the extreme position a road bike usually gives. It has drop bars like a road bike but with a shorter top tube than a roadie would give so you have more hand positions and a more comfortable riding position. It is probably a better fit for most people looking for a commuter than can double as a weekend club ride bike. Disc brakes can not really be a bad thing, it is defintiley a trend that I think we'll see more of in the future. Especially if you are riding in traffic, you can't have too much brake. I know Schwinn sells some bikes in Wal-Mart etc... but they are not the same as what Performance or many other independant bikes shops offer. THe stuff in the mass stores are only offered in limited (usually one) frame size and don't use the same grade materials as the IBD level bikes. The bikes you get in Performance or other bike shops carry the same warranties as any other brand out there, don't let the different distribution channels scare you off the DBX is a great bike!
