I can't wait for this.

I know dirtyphotos, vpower, and myself will all be wearing costumes to it for Halloween.

I suggest that other people do the same.

someone on our team wanted to have a costume race- I guess we'll have one after all!

btw, the course is fast and flowy- I think it's a lot of fun. not many rocks or roots to speak of, but some bumps on the grassy sections. there is an extended paved/gravel section, but i think if you go with high pressure you'll bounce a fair amount on other parts.

Ooooh! Thank god for the "Last Post" preview thing on the front page or I wouldn't have seen this. I won't be racing, but I'll definitely be stopping by to watch for a few hours.

I'm registered and ready to go (and hopefully we'll get some rain here in bone-dry DC before the race and we can all have matching costumes; mud monsters!).

Can you pre-ride the course? And where exactly is it? I don't want to be trespassing on the grounds and have a twitchy WWII retired sniper mistake me for a kraut. edit: hey look! it's right there in the first post.

the course is planned out but won't be laid out until saturday. no pre-riding /access allowed before sunday.

as for race day- you could show up early to pre-ride (before the 10am race) or if there is a gap in the racing (after the riders finish, but before the next race), but not while a race is in progress.

My BikeRack DC jersey is draped over my bike and ready for muddy battle. And with the recent rains and cool air, looks like we'll have some real 'cross here in DC. No more of this hot, dry, sunny crap that we had to ride in at Charm City and Ed Sander.

this was a blast. I hope this happens annually. Having a race in town is just so great. Having it be a perfect course is icing on the cake.

Great course. But oh, it hurt.

Tried sticking with the top 5 in the C race as long as I could. That was about a lap. And then spent the rest of the time in purgatory, on my own. The headwind on the backside with nobody to hide behind was a killer. Still, in the end I'm satisfied with a top 20.

Dream location and 2 minutes from my house. Really hope this becomes an annual event.

How'd everyone do?

got my ***** handed to me. I could blame it on my fishnets getting caught on my bike, but that really had nothing to do with it.

I am happy with how I did. I started off well and rode like 4th wheel most of the first lap. I was in the top 10 through 3 but then my large gearing (42x18) wore me out and I finished 16th in the C race.
I had a disastrous start at my last race so just starting well was a big deal in my book.

I already put a 39t chainring on my bike for the coppi race next sunday.

Ugghhh...bad race

The organizers called me up to near the front of the C Men's field at the start, and I tried to stay with those guys on the first lap, blew up, and ended up in 50th. Next time, F the organizers, I'm starting from the back and riding my own race until the engines are good and charged up.

Still, awesome (and tough) course and a great event. Yes, this should definetly be an annual event. The atmoshphere by the downhill section was pure party, plenty of free and good beer to go around, cool people everywhere, and lots of dogs to play with. As much as I suffered and sucked today, I can't wait to do this race again next year!

yeah cool i was 14th! Thats what I thought when I crossed the line but when the initial results were posted they had me at 17th which baffled me then a revised list went up that had me 16th. 14th is my best result so far. I had two 15ths prior.

no way man you should still start at the front and ride your own race. You save such much energy being near the front at the beginning by avoiding the initial bunchings.

yeah they now have me at 19th, i was at 22nd yesterday. seems like they counted several of the lapped riders as having finished, so maybe that explains the discrepancy.

either way i felt like it was a pretty strong showing, i've been hovering around 20th place on a singlespeed so i'd say it's been a pretty good first season so far.

the course was a blast. challenging enough to keep it interesting, but not so bad that it sucked on a single. i've already sent a note to matt donahue, the organizer of the race, thanking him for putting this on and offering team bike rack's support in making this an annual event.

sorry i didn't meet you schiek, maybe next week in leesburg. glad everybody had a good race.

I dropped my chain the first lap at the second set of barriers. But no big deal, its early, I can stay with the second pack.

I rode jpearls wheel for a while thinking it was dirtyphotons (both had blue bikes and red bandanas). Then I went off on my own. Was passing people for a good portion of the race, and then dropped my chain lap 5 before the hill with the hairpin at the top. Got passed by a lot of people, one of them was a kid we ride with regularly. I made it my point to pass him back and kicked it. Caught him in the final sprint.

I felt like I rode well, didn't tire myself out and bonk. The lack of technical sections hurt though, thats where I make up my time.

I'll have pictures coming tonight or tomorrow.
