building barriers
Does anyone have any plans for building barriers? Not cheapie pvc ones for practice, but real regulation legit ones for races.
I asked my friend google but she kept showing me PVC plans.

16" high. Use 2 2x8's. Thats what was used at our race.

I was wondering more about how to secure them to the ground. I've seen them hammered down with rebar along the center. I was wondering if there were any other plans for ways to secure them.

Just use spacers on the two by eights.
We just built some. One sheet of plywood ripped at 40cm can make two full 3m length barriers. Just join the plywood lengths with a little patch of plywood about 2ft long. We made them free standing by screwing in a 40cm length of 2 x 4 to the ends and attaching a plywood triangle to that perpendicular to the barrier length. Then on the ends we have eye hooks to hold rebar. We will also rebar the middle area as well.

You can join the two 2x8's w/ a 2 or 3 strips of plywood, or with a 2 or 3 2x4's.
For practice 2x8x8' should be fine. For races, you may want 10' or 12' long.
Drive cut rebar through two eye lags , 2x per barrier, as seen here.

Hm, I'm guessing 18" should be sufficient. Any less and it will probably lean over from impacts. any more and it may be hard to pull backout.
But rebar is cheap and easily replaceable, so getting it wrong isn't the end of the world.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and you can also cut the barriers in the middle and add two strap hinges, making them easier to transport. This will increase the number of rebars required to keep it from deforming when hit.
