Spring Mountain (PA), Nov. 8th: who's racing?

i hear there is a detour due to construction, but if you are registered, you probably got that email alert.

who's registered or planning to race (or attend)?

after a final check/tune-up this morning, i might head to the Fair Hill (MD/DE) race today and watch the elites.

I'll be racing but I may be riding there from philly, then racing, so we'll see how my legs are.

i'm almost ready...my friend and i tuned the bike up...but i somehow glitched my tires which are somewhat seated wrong--there's a flat spot that is felt and quite visible...i guess i am still used to slapping on mtbike tires...would some soapy water help if i try again?

edit:
LBS got it right in about 10 minutes...

for a 'flat' course, it was miserable for sure...especially the marshy 'ascents' in that barrier area...i don't think i once put the bike on my shoulder. the sandpit, too, was rough every lap. are the results in? i just want confirmation i was not THE last....

btw, what cat were you in?

i finished 53rd out of 75ish i think there was in cat 4, that sucks larry i thought you were doing pretty good out there but yeah like everyone else said for a flat course it was pretty hard. i found that if you took a certain line in the muddy section you could ride the whole way albeit pretty slowly, i had fun! and see larry thats why i only do 1 race a weekend, its a lot easier on your body ;-)

here they are....probably just posted in the last few hours

http://www.bikereg.com/Results/2009/...g-Mount-CX.asp

wow. i did, well, what i figured. 52nd place out of 69...of course, 10 are DNS! and a few DNF...

anyways, it was ecstatically humbling and i'm ready to work harder and still keep it fun.

time to really get a better, more competitive/FUN bike...

seriously. i would like to think that i'd do the smart thing and keep it to one race a weekend, but i know ill just keep doing two when i can. hopefully this weekend was a fluke.

and to think, some folks will race twice in a day...or is that easier for the body since it is definitely warmed up...whereas, a day later is recovery time? i can't say i know from experience.

by the way, kenny, i noticed on the results there's actually no #53....? you finished a few slots (49?) ahead of me

It depends on the course. On bumpy courses my back hurts too much to race again. on slow muddy ones I'm too pissed off to race again. when the officials make the race 1-2 laps too long like they did on spring mountain I'm too tired to race again.

interesting to hear it was already a miserable course...and it went too many laps? was that because of the 'eilite' beginners finishing so fast?

how does the phelps course compare?
