philly-area racers: who's doing phelps and other area races in the next few weeks?

does the phelps school race in malvern look to be low key and not well-attended? i see there is a big race not TOO far away in taneytown md on the same weekend if i'm not mistaken. depending on how i feel after phelps, thinking of the marysville race outside of harrisburg. any other smaller (non-bikereg?) races going on in the area?

any clue what the course will be like other than a "moderate hill" ?

well, i am sure a few folks might chime in about the course...less brutal in one sense compared to my first race at Spring Mountain (no muckNmud OR sand)...but there were no killer hills but it wasn't just ONE 'moderate' hill. a few insane off-cambers...but some nice fast stretches off those hills.

again, plenty of elite cat 4s blowing us all out of the water then transforming into a new category to race the next race 10 minutes later...now i don't feel so bad and that i didn't lose to as many true 'beginners'....

they were passing around Marysville PA race flyers for next saturday....a little haul from the philly area, but possible.

riding a bike that was only 25 pounds (and not 31+ like two weeks ago) made a bit of difference...

time to work on FASTER stamina.

out of 39 or so (not sure who were DNS...my friend was one), i came in 30th...again, beat a few other cat4s on the course and a few of the junior riders...but a lighter bike with a real cx drivetrain should make the experience more fun and...competitive...it was nice to be lapped MUCH later into the 40 minutes

you beat me, i came in 33rd i believe. that was not a good course for me, id rather have had a couple of more difficult climbs rather than the almost constant slight uphill in the technical section on the front of the course but the back section by the fences was nice and fast. i actually think i had a better time in the mud in trenton but thats just me. also slowing me down yesterday was me letting to much air out of my front tire and not having enough time to pump it back up so i had to take the turns wider/slower than i normally did, kinda bummed me out.

yeah, i saw you and thought you might be gaining a few times...i really don't have the speed on the flats or the anaerobic bursts that allow me to slip back into a steady fast pace...i did the same with my tires to some degree...that insane 180 degree curve after the barriers and the hill was tough. i wasted time on my pedals (strapless clips...). time to upgrade.

but the point really was: it's fun. i wish they had a way to let true cat 4 beginners race each other...or maybe like on the day of a race, choose one race. too many sandbaggers it seems. i guess 'beginner' is a relative term.

by the way, kenny, a mechanic at Cycle Fit in Wallingford said he knew you when i mentioned the Spring Mountain race. are you doing any more this season?

i think i def woulda done a few places better if not for my tire but yeah it was a good time, didnt have to hose my bike off for once in the past couple races ive done. the one uphill 180 i realized was easier to get off and run the turn rather than trying to ride it out.
was his name rory with glasses? he used to be a messenger with me. i thought that was gonna be my last race but i just got a ride up to rhode island for the NBX grand prix so this weekend will be my last one. right now im only planning on racing saturday but maybe sunday too for 7 or 8 races this season. you shoulda come up and said hi!

yeah kenny, next time! i saw you before the race began and afterwards...still reeling from the Lactic Threshold i had passed! i am debating on the Marysville PA race this saturday...but might need to sit this one out and just reflect on what i've done so far. i hear there is one in College Park MD feb. 7....ought to be cold!

hope to catch up with you sometime.
