Mechanical doping?

Of possible interest, the headline reads: Rider implicated after motor found on bike at world cyclo-cross championships

UCI isn't playing that card, they claim they can find the motors and will not give up details . With carbon frames the norm, x rays, ultra sound, or the weight of the ride may factor in ? Who knows, but a national and EU champ to get caught .... WOWZZZZAAAAAAAAAA !!!

I was somewhat skeptical, but this motor is now available and will fit in a 31.8 seat tube.
While not completely hidden as it comes, it could certainly be hidden by a competent mechanic.

vivax Assist, Gruber Assist E-Bikes (Fahrradantriebe, Elektrorad )

The special design of the drive unit allows it to be built into any bicycle frame with the requisite seat tube internal diameter of 31.6 mm or 30.9 mm and is therefore invisible on the bicycle – except the on/off switch, which is unobtrusively located on the bar end.

Above link still is not showing the actual UCI inspection when It was found and the rider DQ'd.

Added weight is, I expect, a Handicap on the Shouldered Hike-a-Bike and barrier leaping sections of Cross race Courses ..

Motor + battery to power it, are Not Weightless

But heck For 2700 euros You can try It. But, the Bike Is Extra.

There is another thread here.
https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...ing-motor.html

Here are some notes from Femke van den Driesschev

Cookson confirms 'technological fraud' at cyclocross worlds - VeloNews.com

“It wasn’t my bike, it was that of a friend and was identical to mine,” a tearful Van den Driessche told Belgian TV channel Sporza. “This friend went around the course Saturday before dropping off the bike in the truck. A mechanic, thinking it was my bike, cleaned it and prepared it for my race,” she added, insisting that she was “totally unaware” it was fitted with a hidden motor.
“I feel really terrible. I’m aware I have a big problem. [But] I have no fears of an inquiry into this. I have done nothing wrong,” she said.
So, it seems to indicate that the rider admits having the bike with the motor.

No place have I read that they actually found batteries in the bike. And, without batteries, there is no fraud.

The post by rm -rf indicates that the motor may be designed to be used with a rather large external battery, which apparently wasn't on the bike.

They've had 5 or 6 years to develop the technology since the rumors began about these things . Battery technology and advance build materials could cut the then 3 lb weight of the thing . Reminds me of a baseball player in the home run chase when he was busted for a corked bat . "Yea I just happened to grab the wrong one" . If it was on the site, it was in violation, in the race pure guilty . Battery or not, just IMO and that of the UCI .

Unlike Steroids, or EPO, it is not illegal to train with added power or added resistance, or having teammates using power or resistance during training.

There is no possible advantage of racing a "motorized" bike without batteries.

There might be chain of custody issues that one might not be able to monitor the status of every bicycle during a race. Just like a person might do a weigh-in with lead weights before a race, then pull them for the actual race.

But, at least in this case, the bike was apparently seized immediately after the rider pulled out of the race before the finish due to a mechanical failure.

Should you be disqualified for riding with a generator hub on the front wheel that might be able to be modified to provide power with the right batteries and controller, even if you had neither on your bike?

Our sport post LA can tolerate ZERO % dark areas . Where has the UCI announced the no battery info ? This has hit main stream media full tilt . Meaning Business Insider etc. are printing the story, sponsors and promoters read those publications . The illegal bike was seized, Belgian team leaders are NOT defending her, she has her father on her side . The UCI saw fit to blow this up ASAP . Our sport went through a period of sponsor and fan losses . Lack of credibility as the sport is recovering, can not come down to an errant announcement blackening an eye just for negative publicity . She's gonna go down and the tech inspection will now be down without seatpost installed . I read they looked down the SP tube and saw it .

UCI regulation 1.3.010.
"Any presence of a bicycle that does not comply with the provisions of 1.3.010, within or on the margins of a cycling competition, constitutes a fraud by the TEAM and the rider . "
This sorta sums up the distancing by the Belgian Team .
Velonews today, "Making sense of cyclings self-distruction" Hits the nail full on .
