Granogue - Been There?

Doing Granogue for the first time on Sunday. Any comments on style of course (beyond last year's epic mud) as it compares to the MABRA races?

Weather looks like some rain tomorrow perhaps, but dry on Saturday and Sunday.

yeah, doing Granogue myself sunday (cat 4, of course...registered at the last minute...looks like the field limit of 125 was reached!)....last year, i watched the mudslopfest and seeing that, i knew i finally found the perfect expression of cycling...

going out tomorrow to watch the cat 4 race...then riding my training ground on the other side of the Brandywine River. great cycling area...for mtb, cx and/or road

I'll be in the Cat 4 as well. Tried some cornering practice today - man I stink at switch backs.

went out today to check out the vibe and course....very daunting...! but looks fun....it was VERY windy, but i think it will be better tomorrow. and drier. and the best lines marked out from a whole day of racing...the sand pit was nearly flat and easy to ride (or so it appeared) by the time of the B men's race. saw a few mountain bikes (one finished the cat 4 in the top 5 or so)...

but i did hear the course will slightly change tomorrow! what was more of a 'power' setup today (long stretches and hills) will be modified into a more 'technical' course...i saw roped off areas that looked like they were part of the course, but were never used today....very 'switchback' looking! but that runup to the Tower will be simply painful. saw a few guys just simply RIDE up it...amazing. this will be a day of pain and joy to remember see you in the medical tent, ha

If it's technical down hill or on the flats, at least I get to rest a bit. If it's technical and uphill - I'm just going to Philly for a steak with.

PS - I'll be on the orange steel Bianchi - surely there can be only one.

I was 79 or 80 - managed to not get lapped by about 100yds, so I got the reward of riding the last lap. Only fell once, when my rear wheel spun out going up the sharp pitch up to the tower.

Overall, a good course and lovely day - definitely worth the trip up from DC.

Nice. I saw photos of it from this and previous years. It looks like one of the greatest courses for me.

Sorry I missed this post prior to the granogue race. I did both days, Cat4. It was my first CX race and I just got my CX bike 2 weeks ago and rode it 4 times. I am a cat3 on the road and have been racing road since 07. Wow it was such a blast, I don't have a mtn bike so riding in this terrain is totally new to me.

Saturday I started in the last row, was definitely hesitant, the top 3 just lapped me at their finish so I finished 1 lap down, 70-something overall. Sunday I was more comfortable and got a little better start, finished 63rd I believe, but I didn't get lapped, fell a few times, but had such a fun time.

I have the fitness but the bike handling is definitely lacking, I am doing CX for fun in the off-season and am really liking it so far. Next up is Beacon.

What a great weekend. I'm kinda hoping they do a double again next year. Though I do miss Wissachickon.

Raced the Cs. I've got neither fitness nor bike handling. Finished 55th, then 54th on Sunday. Just made the cut.

Finished 56th at the Hustle, so I guess I'm on the right track: baby steps.

I posted videos of Granogue Cross here if interested:

great footage! i posted it on my facebook page.

heck folks, you all did better than me. my first race of the season (and fourth ever)...C race on sunday, in the very back. kenny, i was 93rd overall...you were up in the 80s i think! https://www.bikereg.com/Results/2010/...ies-Race-6.asp

i have the handling, techniques...working on the actual power and stamina and microburst juggling. but it was definitely a blast. at 47 on a 1993 steel frame, not too bad. wait until next year, when i'm 48 on a 2009 or 2010 TCX...
