Cat 4 or Cat 3/4?
So I'm a rookie to racing. Did one race last year but am registering for at least three this year (maybe more depending on my work travel schedule). I know I am Cat 4.
However, I'm also old enough to ride in the Masters groups. I'm looking at one race that is heald near my house so would like to do two races that day. The schedule that I'm looking at is:
8:30 am: Cat 4
10:00 am: Masters Cat 3/4
2:00 pm: Cat 3/4
Is it considered kosher for a rookie Cat 4 who knows he'll get shelled in any race to sign up for the Cat 3/4 instead of the Cat 4? That would give me races at 10:00 and 2:00 for a nice rest in between. I don't think I'd want to do 8:30 and again at 10:00.
Thanks for listening to my n00b questions.
Cheers!

Agreed. You'll notice there's a lot of grumbling in CX circles about people who wait too long to cat up but never a word about people who cat up too soon.

I started racing in the 3/4 races on my second race, a half hour(like most cat 4 only races are) is just too short. I just cat-ed up to a 3 this year as soon as I was able to.

Race early, change, de-mud the bike, and be in pole position when the recovery beverages get tapped .
