First race tomorrow - how early should I get there?
Race is at 8:15. I've read that I should get there 2 hours beforehand but is that super early?

personally, I like about an hour. this gives me enough time to get the rest of my kit on, find the porta-potties, text my lady, pre-ride the course once or twice, and warm up some. usually in that order. if you already have your number (pin it on the night before) and can register ahead of time, those things are helpful. if not, just add another 15-30 minutes.
good luck with your first race!

My guess is you are the first race of the day. How much warm-up do you think you need? Add 15 minutes to that plus however long you will need to get ready to ride. If the race is close and you wear your racing kit to the race and all you have to do is pull the bike off the car, check tire pressure, put on shoes and go then 45-60 minutes early should be enough, unless you have to check in.
You probably want to ride the course a lap or two as part of your warm-up.

personally, i like to get there before the first race. the series i am in, the first race is the single speed open and starts at 0900. i'll pre-ride the course then watch the race. watching gives me hints on where the tough spots are located. for example, there was a particular technical portion of a race. i watch the single speeders run through that section instead of riding. i did the same in my race and it made a big difference (i didn't crash). think about a little snack about an hour out (i.e banana, GU energy gel, honey stinger...). anyway, good luck and most importantly, have fun.

thanks all. i think i'm going to aim to get there at 7 which should give me plenty of time. i've read other people saying they get there two hours beforehand but that just seems ridiculous imo.

You need to have enough time to get settled and get a pre-ride lap or two in, eat something, etc... I think at least an hour is good. You just don't want to be stressed, either getting to the venue or when you get there. Leave yourself some time to get lost, etc...
Depends on if you are pre-registered too. Expect that to take some time if you are signing up day-of.
