Preparations to leave Tok 7.14.02
The folks from Tetlin never showed today but it was a fine day regardless. I got some things together and prepared for my departure tomorrow. John came over and spent the day hanging out too. He worked on some designs for his next birdhouse. He was looking through one of Helga's Native American Art books for a mask design. I wrote a letter to my brothers and one to my friend Megan in Colorado. I dressed up the envelope for Megan's and copied a native design on the front. When I write the occasional letter, I like to put some art on the envelope. I found a hacky sack and played with that for a while, but I'm not very good, so I stopped. Two bed and breakfast guests came by in the late afternoon after a long day of driving. They were from Holland. After Helga, Bill, John, and I ate a pizza dinner, John and I played some frisbee out in the yard. He was pretty good and we played for about 30 minutes or more and caught it 12 times without one drop. John headed home and the guests got back from their own dinner in Tok. We had some conversation about Alaska, the lower 48, Europe, Holland, and the politics in between. When I told Helga I'd be leaving tomorrow, she gave me a very nice complement by suggesting I stay the summer to help out with the bed and breakfast. I was very flattered. I took some pictures of the area outside and in and told Helga I'd send them to her. Tomorrow morning, I'll have a nice breakfast before leaving and then see about making it to Chicken, Alaska.
Prudoe Bay, Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina by bike...eventually. (2/3 done!)
