Music Festival over - clean up and recovery 7.22.02
Today was a very mellow day devoted to recovery from a long weekend of partying and music. I woke up pretty early after just a little sleep but I decided it might be time to clean myself up as I hadn't showered since the bathhouse on Wednesday. I went to the laundromat and did a load and had a nice 4-minute shower for 2 bucks. I saw Tim and Shawn who were the ones selling Peruvian clothing at the festival. They invited me on a canoe trip but we ended up not going because the Klondike River was a little low and could have been rough on the bottom of his canoe. I gave them my last two hemp necklaces to show my appreciation for the invite. Later on they gave me a slingshot to return the gesture. It was a good trade. Most people had cleared out of the city and Dawson was almost back to it's normal quiet self. A few stragglers were either hitching out of town or trying to find jobs here for the rest of the summer. I went shopping and stocked up on granola, nutella, peanut butter, and honey for my road snacks. I had planned on leaving tomorrow but I decided to spend another night here. I took apart my bike and degreased everything. I cleaned up the chain, took apart the rear cassette and the pedal cranks. It was dirty work and it took a while, but it was nice to get to know the mechanics of my bike a little better. In the evening, Josh and Stacy, two new campground mates, made some vegetarian chili over campfire. It was delish! After that we went into town to check out a few bars that had live music. I did a little bar hopping and landed back at the Pit for some rock-a-billy music from a band from Manitoba. I danced to a couple songs then headed back across the river towards camp with Tim and Shawn. We said goodbye and I rode over to the campground where Santina and a few other guys were up chatting by the campfire. I stayed up for a while and talked before hitting the sack. (4 miles)
Peace
Dave
