11.27.02 Hiking along the Merced River

After a nice sleep, I woke up to warm sunshine over the mountains. I am so happy to be here! I munched on some Dungeness crab legs that Meghan had brought from San Francisco to cook up a couple days ago. Yum! Karen came home for some lunch and we talked some more about the area and what it was like spending time out here amongst such beauty. Before she went back to work, we kicked around the hacky sack for a bit. Karen mentioned to us that there was a $20 park entrance fee but we could skip that by getting a vistor’s pass for her to sign. Nicole and I, and her dog Miette took to the road to find a nice dog friendly hike. We found a nice one that paralleled the South Fork of the Merced River. We had to keep Miette on a leash, which was kind of a bummer. The hike took us through some gorgeous scenery. My legs felt a little sore, probably still recovering from cycling or dancing around the other night. On the other hand, Nicole had lots of energy and trucked ahead. Eventually, we turned around, knowing it would be getting dark soon. We finished the walk back with the aid of my headlamp just at the end. The El Portal Market was open so we hit it for some groceries on the way back home. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and they will be closed. When we returned to the house, we were pleased to see Karen had signed our guest pass before leaving for the holidays. I called up my friend Lori in San Francisco to see if she and her friend Andrea would be interested in coming out to join us in the mountains but they declined because of the long drive and prior obligations. To finish off the evening, we enjoyed a nice smoke and then popped in a classic movie, one of my favorites, The Dark Crystal.

Peace

Dave
