Where I ride in Miami 5.15.02

I went out this evening and followed what I call the Old Cutler route. Its about a 22.5 mile loop that starts from our house and follows US1 under the Miami Metro Rail which has a paved trail. There is a section where you have to skip over to the sidewalk on US1 for about a mile, then there is a nice straight paved bike trail on the West side of US1 that goes down pretty far. I cut over on Howard Drive and go east until I hit Old Cutler Road which is pretty scenic if you like looking at rich peoples' houses. But there is a bike/walking path that takes you most of the way back to US1 in Coral Gables. This ride seems longer than the Key Biscayne ride where I go out about 15 miles, then backtrack back home.
I set up a new page in my Cycling the Americas Route Section to display my Florida Training Routes. I've put up the Old Cutler and the Key Biscayne routes and I plan on adding an Everglades route that I was doing in January as well as showing my South Florida tour route I plan on doing some time next week.

Hey Dwag,

I live in the Kendall area, near Dadeland Mall. I usually bike at night down the busway. Try to get in about 20 miles. Were 'bouts are you at and how often do you ride. Do you ride much at night? I love the Old Cutler drive but I feel it's too dangerous at night. I leave that or the Key Biscayne ride for the weekends.

Take care.

Hey Bert,
I live in Coral Gables. Most of my riding is done mid-day into the evenings. But I'd like to get into some night riding to avoid the heat and nasty traffic. Though, I do enjoy riding from the beginning of 95 south down US1 and picking out a car then beating it to Bird road on the Metro Rail path. Makes me feel good about not being in a car.
What kind of riding do you do? You are probably on a road bike right? I use a hard tail with road tires. How often do you ride?
I try to get out there as much as possible expecially since I've been training for this tour.
Another ride I do is down Tamiami trail towards the Micosuki <sp> Indian Reservation. I think its a great ride but I usually switch off the road tires and go with the knobby tires so I can stay close to the everglades on the utility road on the other side of the canal.
Lastly, I've done the 14 mile shark alley loop out there in the same area which is great if you like checking out alligators and birds. Its a great natural setting and if you need more miles, you can just do it two or three times.

If you want, we can get together for some riding. I'll send you my number and you can give me a call.

Dave
