Back on Baby Blu! Key Biscayne, FL 5.14.02

Not 24 hours in Miami before I was out on my big blue Baby Blu. My warm up was getting the dang paniers on the right way and then I managed to gather up a few of my familiar cycling duds and head for the road with my brother Mike.
At 4:30pm the sun was Beamin' down so I had to lube up with the finest SPF-whatever. It felt good being back on my bike, Blu-licious Big Wheels. Most everything was how I left it, tho I did notice a couple of small nasty gouge marks in the frame as well as a small dent. It must have happened the last time I rode her in January but failed to notice until now. It made me think of how I need to take care of this steed if shes gonna last me through the trails and tribulations of The Road. We headed off for Key Biscayne which is one of the best bike routes around Miami. We eventually terminated our journey at the water (Biscayne Bay) and treated ourselves to the last sips of our water and J as we contemplated life on Stiltsville which could be seen in the distance. Stiltsville is made up of a collection of decaying houses built on stilts on what I believe is a sandbar a few hundred yards from main land. I've never been out there, but I think I'd like to Kayak out there soon to check it out.
The day was beautiful and somewhere in the high 80s F I guess. We refilled our camelbaks and headed back towards home. On the way we stopped at Crandon Park Botanical Gardens for a walk and saw many water foul and wild iguanas. The large iguanas could be heard all over shaking up the palm trees as we approached. Some even dove into the pond after running out of branches. We decided to head back to our bikes and stick to the paved path and see more of the flora throughout the gardens. It was a wonderful sight as the sun was setting and I wished I had had my camera with me so I could share some of the beauty with you all.
We headed back and I noticed more cyclists on the road than when I was training back in December and January. Most of them roadies speeding along taking advantage of the evening tail wind back to the mainland. This is where I like to try to keep up with them. I know they probably have a lot more advantages than I do, such as weight, aerodynamic, more experience and a speedier bike, but that doesn't keep me from trying to tail 'em. They usually pull away after a while, but not until I've gotten a good sweat out of it. One of these days, I'll be passing more of them than pass me.
Mike and I stopped off at Daily Bread, a Middle Eastern deli/grocery and barely snuck in before close to get some take home grub (kalamata olive hummus, spicy eggplant dip, pita, meat pies, and spinach pies - Oh Yum). After the 30 mile round trip I feel good, I know what needs tuning up on my Blu-Berry Machine for tomorrow, and I am feeling more confident about the possibility of starting a small tour sometime next week.

Its good to be back home.

Peace and thanks for reading.
Dave
