Any Kingston cyclists out there? Just recently moved here.

I ride fixed most of the time but just picked up a road bike and looking to put some km's on it. Do some trail riding as well.

Cool i’m just off Bath as well around Bayridge (no frills) I actually picked up a road bike here in town @ cycle path nice people (trek). Two other places i liked were gears & grinds (higher end stuff it seems?)A great guy who runs the place. And frontenac cycle (fuji) here is a link to the address’s

No, no bike just yet. I rode a Trek 2200 today, very smooth. I put in an offer for an all carbon bike. Should get an answer back within a week. Which Trek did you buy?

I got a 2006 Trek 1000 so far so good. Not riding it much cause im lazy, despite it being new still reaching for my fixed gear 1st.

Hey that would be nice to grab something nice less then retail & from a shop to boot. I also convinced my wife that i really need a road bike with note's of i'll have it for a really long time & cause my fixie aint cutting it. Ha ha

Ti-cycle heard of it haven’t been there yet.

Have you walked around le moine point yet? I’ve been riding around there with my MTB lately very nice.

I've been through le moine point once. That was about three years ago. The wife and I drove through the parking lot to make a uturn there last weekend. I mentioned to her that if I had a mt bike I could ride through the park. She yelled at me for wanting two bikes. No second biek for me until she gets hers.

Welcome to K-town, Sweep. If you live out on Bath Road you're already on the way to Picton. Highway 33's my favorite lazy ride (it's flat as a pancake, but the scenery is beautiful). The thing about Kingston and the east-west rides (Highway 2 to Brockville or Highway 33 to Picton) is that you're also on the shores of Canada's inland sailing capital with semi-predictable easterlies and westerlies. Get ready for leg-destroying headwinds and oh-my-god I'm-Lance-Armstrong tailwinds.
I'm a sophmore roadie, still riding a churched-up Nishiki beater with a fresh wheelset (I'll go upmarket once my fitness is deserving of the privelege). I'm a year-round commuter with a beat up x-mart bike that isn't theft bait (beware Kingston's army of ill-bred bike thieves who will swipe anything with wheels). I've got a semi-durable Raleigh hardtail for cross-country MTB, although there aren't too may opportunities around K-town (I really miss Thunder Bay). The part of the old Fort-Henry trails that DND didn't close down and the trail off of Collins Bay Rd. are OK technical trails, but not much of a cross-country ride.
My road interests are in brevet riding (hope to complete a double-century in 2007 Kingston-to-Brockville-to-Kingston-to-Picton and back. I'm keen to score a used Trek Pilot (57 cm) for a slightly less taxing long-haul position. Gimme a shout if you know any ultracycling wannabes who want to train up.

Thanks eddie. Yes I'm familiar with hwy 33. Drove back on the ferry from Picton a few weeks ago. Looked like a good bike ride and came highly recommended from a buddy who owns a bike shop in Picton https://www.idealbike.com/. Never been out the hwy 2 way.

This is my first road bike - entry level - hope to get my fitness up as well. Having slight withdrawal and getting out of shape. FAST. Used to be a year round commuter til I moved here and can't find my way out of a paper bag. LOL. Have map, will travel.

The only off road has been at Lemoine Point but heard about Fort Henry but nothing about Collins Bay Rd. Gotta look for that one since it's so close.

Ultracycling, not me, not yet. I've been in and out of Hotel Dieu the last 2 days. The internet doctor said I was about to die but apparently just have an inflamed appendix.

Hope to tag along on a run to Picton.

I went to Ideal bike in Picton. Nice guy there that runs the shop. I've been thinking of doing a ride to Picton late next spring early summer. Haven't had mych training but I did a four hour ride in Gan this past week.

A 4 hour ride! Did you do it on one of the bikes from Ti-cycle? How is that place got to check it out some time?
Yes a ride out to picton is a to do for sure! Around spring, summer.

It's freezing here in Kingston. It sucks that after searching so long for a bike and noe being able to ride it. It has to be at least 2 to 4* before I'll ride.

At the beginning of the season we had no snow & not to cold, now we got to much snow & dam its cold. *****ing about the weather makes me feel better and the time pass.

DUHI4GOT You keeping warm? Although not much different then New York i'm guessing.
Went down to cycle path last week ashton was receiving a bunch of boxes of stock for the coming season.

Arrhh. Good to see you guy's got a web site up & made it on Martino's blog. I will check the place out for sure. I did a few summer CM rides with some of the guys from there on the crazy choppers/funny bikes.

Y'all have the February blahs. Hold on, spring's coming. I was enjoying the sub-optimal weather until the freewheel and bottom bracket of my winter beater died at the same time. The local commute wasn't too bad on a pair of Schwable snow studs, the only time I went down was when I stepped out my front door onto a patch of snow-covered ice. Did have that one snowstorm two weeks back when nothing packed right and every street was greasy slush -- just more challenges to make us better technical riders, I guess....

February now gone hang on there is a snow storm out there now ha ha i haven’t really had to commute much so i should not complain.

After last winter i had the LBS true my wheels to my surprise each & every spoke nipple disintegrated when touched with a spoke wrench. I had to replace them all with brass then brought them back to get fixed up. Winter, not well for wheels either. Oh my v brakes on that bike are dead to.

I got my self a set of rollers witch I’m spending more & more time on. Well trying to.

Hey Sweeps, that also happened to me on my 2004 Trek 1000. My LBS here in Ottawa said that that sometime happens with wheels made by machine. That was on the rear wheel only. I've ridden over 10000km with my Trek and I can't say enough good things about it. I've taken to cycling so much because of it that last spring I upgraded to a Devinci for my long rides. My Trek is now my commuter. I'm considering Ottawa Bike Clubs classic Rideau Lakes Tour (Ottawa-Kingston-Ottawa) in June. Have you ever thought about it? 1800 people snap up the tickets pretty quickly.

BTW, I'm a Kingston lad myself but I moved away when I was three weeks old! LOL. My parents live there though and we visit regularly. Last summer one of my parent's neighbours led me up route 2 to Gan - a most excellent ride. And then she took me along a route along the lake that went to the glenora ferry. That was sweet as well.

The wheels were a from my winter MTB beater the nipples were alloy the salt eats them up nicely, brass are heavier but go a lot longer in crappy weather.

The trek 1000 seams to be very popular, loving mine so far i did buy it beginning of winter so not many km's on it yet. Not to sure i could pull off Ottawa, here & back that would be crazy, but sounds like fun for sure.

I have talked to a coupe of people about routes so i hope to try some. I’m on bath so i'll be heading west a lot & if you do the ride with your parents neighbor again let me know.

When I head back to Kingston with bike in tow, I'll give you a heads up. My parents just moved from a house on the water just east of K~ and are now living in a nice apt on what they tell me is Block D downtown. It's an age thing...so I don't know how parking my bike at their place is going to work :-(
Again, I can't say enough good things about the Trek 1000. If you have a newer model, you probably have a carbon fork and seatpost with a Tiagra derailleur? Sweet. I'm all aluminum with Sora front and back. But for the price, it's a super bike.
Two summers back I solo'ed from Ottawa to K~ on my Trek. While it was an superb experience, I wouldn't do it again - alone. With no one to share the wind, my Trek got heavy in the last couple of hours. And the wind picked up around Westport. 8 1/2 hours of wheels turning, 10 hours real time. Picked up a nice tan though. LOL. I am seriously considering the OBC's Rideau lakes tour though. It has lots of support.
How often do you ride when the weather is fair? I'm fortunate that I can commute on my bike. Actually, I rode in today but the weather network changed the forecast on me last night. It looks like I'll be heading home in the rain. +8 though. C'est la vie. At least I'm on my wheels.
