beware of Peccos in Ottawa
bad experience with Peccos Bike Shop in Ottawa. Purchased a new Eclipse bike a few years ago @ Peccos. Needed a new free hub assembly - no problem - just call Peccos. What a joke! Without giving a blow by blow description of the problems I've had with Monsieur Martin Cousineau including but not limited to not returning phone calls, lack of initiative to obtain the part needed, misinforming me (lying?) and the best one - its in the mail! I originally initiated the call to Peccos on Apr 6 to obtain the part. It is now Apr 27 and I still do not have the part even though I have already paid for it. Customer service @ Peccos is NON EXISTENT!

Expecting rapid service from any bike store during the peak of tune-up season is, well, unrealistic at best.
This is not excusing the poor service you got. It's just endemic of the bike industry as a whole, from my experience.
As for paying for a part which isn't in hand, I wouldn't do that, ever. Maybe placing a deposit on a big ticket item (ordering in a complete bike, or groupset?) but a freehub? No way I'd do that.
I find even in one bike shop, the service level you get always seem to depend on who you talk to.

yep...I've had a problem in Toronto replacing my commuter's drive train...took it to the lbs and they were too busy, they made an appointment for the following week taking note of the needed parts which he promised to order.
Kept the appointment, but they didn't order the parts...told me they would be in 24-48 hours. two...three...four days later, no parts.
Took it to another lbs, explained that this was my commuter and could not leave it for more than a day...1 hour later it was done.
It's now been two more weeks and I'm still waiting for that call from the first lbs
Jeez

Beware of Opus bikes
A friend of mine went to Cyclogic on Richmond for a commuter bike and was sold an Opus Belcanto which has an internal rear cassette in the hub ... first the handle bars were loose ... then the gearing went screwy ... it was in the shop more than it was on the road and the bike shop eventually took it back and spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong with it ... gave up and sent it back to the company and then sold another Opus bike to her, but they didn't have her size and 3 weeks later she is still waiting for it to come in from Montreal ... bottom line is she has paid out $1200 three months ago now and has nothing to show for it.
