Calling all cyclists in Durham Region

Hey everyone,
I am looking for road cyclists in the Durham region (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville) to share routes and share times and dates of group rides.

A few routes I frequent are here --> http://www.mapmyride.com/user_profil...=jorgecarrasco

mapmyride.com is a great site to add your routes for sharing or just tracking for yourself. Easy to use GUI and integrated with Google maps.

I ride with a group on Saturday mornings. We do from 40k to 80k +...there are varying fitness levels within the members of the group. Members of the group will add loops on for more distance when they feel the need to or are training for en event.

For users of facebook.com I started a group called "Durham Cycling" feel free to join.

Thanks for reading

z3n, me and my cycling buddies (just 3 of us so far) have started riding competitively every Thursday night (start time 6:15 PM). We meet up at the small park on the North East corner of Highway 7 and Reesor road in Pickering.

If you are interested (or anyone else for that matter), just show up and introduce yourself. Here is the race route for next Thursday (June 26th):
Pickering - Stouffville - Uxbridge - Stouffville - Pickering(~50km)

Obviously there are risks when riding on the road and anyone interested in joining should be aware of this... thanks!

Our group rides right by your starting point around the same time. We may hook up this week. You normally ride or drive to the start?

clausen, you and your friends are welcome to join/hook up with us this Thursday (6:15 PM). The 3 of us who started this just ride our bikes up to the meeting point. I come from the NW side of Scarborough, pick up one of my buddies from work in Markham and we proceed to the starting point. Our other buddy rides from home too, he lives not too far from there. I guess folks can also drive up to the starting line although the park is not that large so it may be a problem if, say, a dozen people decide to drive up to the starting line

z3n, glad to see you at the starting line yesterday especially given the unpredictable weather... did the streamers on your handlebars survive the ride? I don't recall seeing them at the finish line

Clausen, I am hoping you and your buddies will join us next Thursday.

Yes. 8 am. it's 100km so bring enough food and drink. We do stop to buy water at the Oshawa zoo.

Sorry we missed you. We rolled by at 6:20. Just as the guy in the Subaru was starting out.

Too bad clausen we were just 5 minutes ahead of you guys... I myself arrived just in time as I cycled from Scarborough and was slowed down by traffic and the fairly brisk wind from the North East.

Hopefully we will finally get to hook up next Thursday. Did you try the race route? If so how did you find it?

We did our normal route up to Stouffville and back. I have ridden those roads many times in the past. Some nice rollers over on Web. Coming from Scarborough and that route. What's your total distance? what time you normally finish?

The starting line is about 15 kms from my place (Warden and Steeles)... I usually leave home at 5:30 PM but was delayed by 10 minutes yesterday and had to rush. I am at the starting line usually between 6 and 6:15 PM. I got home by 8:45 PM last night so we probably finished the ride at around 8 PM. We chatted for a few minutes at the finish line before heading home. My total distance (from home and back) for these Thursday competitive rides is 80 kms. The race itself is about 48 kms.

The hills along Webb are steeper compared to those along the Uxbridge Pickering Townline (aka rollers).
