Your great rides
 

I live east of the GTA in Northumberland County and last year (2008) was my first year seriously riding.
My riding goal was to complete the Bancroft Hilly Hundred in a respectable amount of time.
This will of course be the most memorable ride of my life and I do plan on riding this event at every opportunity.
This year my plans are the Toronto ride for heart (riding my bike on the DVP How cool is that?) and the Oshawa Ride4UnitedWay, and I hear that there is a century ride in the Niagara Region that I will have to find.

Myself I like hills. I am not saying that I am a proficient climber.

No map, but my weekly ride is from my place in midtown Toronto across Davenport (West), down Symington, across Annette, down through high park and then along the lake shore out to Port Credit.

Gets me about 60km depending how far I get out there.
It's a nice ride and the Lakeshore down there is wide enough so that I don't feel cramped. Plus there's a McDonalds for my post ride Mac Attack (kidding)

Two rides I enjoy here in Niagara:
1)Exactly one year ago today, My Dad and I went out to Welland (I live in St. Catharines) and took the Welland Canal trail all the way out. Amazing trail. It's pretty well all off road. The only times you encounter traffic is when you have to cross a few roads.

2)Just last month, again my Dad and I went to Queenston Heights (the Brock Monument) then from there we went along the Niagara Parkway all the way to Niagara Falls. We toured around the Falls for a bit, then made our way home. The ride home was brutal though. We were going about 10km/h because of the wind. The plus mind you, is that we took Thorold Stone Road, which is now four lanes of traffic and in most parts a very wide shoulder. Round trip, this trip was 69km.

Even though I'm more of a commuter cyclist, I love taking these day trips around the region. I'd recommend people come down here. The region itself is a nice size, fairly flat (except when riding along the escarpment) and I've never had any issues with drivers. For the most part they are extremely courteous of cyclists.

East end of Ottawa south to Ingleside on the St. Lawrence. 85km one way. Stop at a little restaurant just on the other side of the 401 for their breakfast special and then ride back.

The other ride that I like is the Rideau Lakes Tour - Ottawa-Kingston-Ottawa. While I've done the Tour once, I've cycled to Kingston 3 times and think its a great ride.

One advantage to living in Ottawa is that the predominant feature of the landscape is flat. There are some nearby hills for sure, but generally speaking, this area is built for going long distance.

I will also be doing the Ride4UnitedWay actually I'll be a marshal on the 160 route. My most memorable ride is the one I'm doing at the moment. Actually I did a ride from Oshawa to Port Hope and back with my brother inlaw that was a great ride just for the company. I really like a route from Oshawa to Janetville and back. You have some great areas to ride in thou. I ride with a guy who has lived on both coasts and he will tell anyone we are extremely lucky to liove in our area as we have the best of everything.
